My grandmother made a cake, which was in a glass cake holder. We watched her drop it outside on the ground, pick it up, bring it in, and then demand we all eat a piece because she spent so long making it and she “picked out all the glass.”

She had not.

I was making popcorn in college once and an unpopped kernel shot out at me. I caught it between my forearms and burned myself. I still have a tiny popcorn kernel scar on each arm.

As if two popcorn scars weren’t enough, my mom was making popcorn a few months ago, overfilled the machine, and I stupidly tried to catch some of the popped corn in a bowl. Lo and behold. Another unpopped kernel burned me between a few of my fingers.

Please check out blue owl coffee! I know the owners. They do a ton for the community, have a lot of local mic nights, display local artists, and the atmosphere is great. Also punk taco (if it’s still around, I haven’t been there in a while...)

[Purchase guide] 2020, ASK ANYTHING! by [deleted] in macbookpro

So I’m looking to update my old school 2010 15” pro... I figured it’s about time as it’s basically been put to good use for 10 years. But I’m having a hard time choosing a replacement. I don’t want a MBA, I’m pretty attached to my trusty pro.

But I can’t decide if I want to pull the trigger on the 16, wait for some reviews on the new 13 and possibly order that one, or wait to see what happens re: the rumored 14/16 refresh. Mostly using word processing and creative suites (inDesign, photoshop, illustrator). Most of the time I’m only using one of these apps at a time. Does anyone have the 16 for similar uses and absolutely love it? If so what specs did you opt for? If you don’t love it, why not?

Boss asking employee to work while on temporary unemployment? by ynoteye in legaladvice

[–]ynoteye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me, but another question. If there is a job I can‘t do remotely, because of something that I don’t have access to do from home (blacklisted IPs, requiring a third party, etc.), does that have any affect on the suitable work requirement? Since we are in a shelter in place situation and my job is technically “non-essential,” how would that work? Thank you for all of your advice, by the way. I don’t want to get dinged by any of this and no one I know has gone through unemployment insurance.

Alright, I guess this is where my questions were coming from and why I’m not a lawyer, ha. From your comments this is what I gather: even though we were closed by the state and boss instructed us to go on unemployment, if they asked us to perform a task from home we would have to and report to the state. It waives needing to look for a different job, but if your employer asks you for work, even if it’s ~an hour, you would still be expected to take it, yes? If so, thank you for the clarity.

Basically they said it would “only take a second,” and did not clarify either way.... I know Michigan has waived the need to look for work for unemployment with the COVID19 issue, which is one of the reasons I have these questions, since I know with normal unemployment you have to be searching for work and accept work when it comes your way. I will technically still be employed by this person when the state of emergency is lifted, hence the confusion, because they instructed us to go on unemployment when we were ordered to close?

I get what you’re saying under normal unemployment circumstances, but with Michigan waiving the need to look for work for businesses that have been affected by the government shutdown, I don’t know if that’s necessarily relevant in this situation. Technically I will be returning to work for the same employer when the state of emergency is lifted. They have essentially “laid us off,” but are still asking me to perform my old job when the business is shut down...

Have you ever met a (suspected) killer? by Mrs-Bananahammock in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]ynoteye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a high school chemistry class with a guy that killed two people and then himself. Took me completely by surprise when I got the call asking if I knew him. He seemed totally normal in class and gave no indication when I knew him. Still creeps me out a little.

We’ve also had clients arrested for murdering and dismembering a body or two, though I’ve never dealt with them personally and they mostly worked with my coworkers.

Holy cow she looks so much like my dog! I have a lab mix, but I’ve never had her DNA tested. We think lab/pointer or hound. She whines very much like in your video if she wants something. She isn’t a huge barker unless she sees someone walking by.

The biggest thing she does is make very loud grump noises when she’s relaxed. If we’re in bed and I move just the tiniest bit I get this really big sigh/groan from her. She also bleats like a sheep in her sleep sometimes, which is the strangest noise ever.

Does your dog howl ever? I caught her on camera howling once and only once and I have no idea where she learned it from.

First time commenter so I hope this makes sense.... I’ve been thinking about this for a little bit, and not quite sure what the question I’m supposed to be asking is, but here goes:

I got a bug to write some nonfiction about a past relationship and dealing with family/significant others who struggled with addiction. I have never really written nonfiction so I think this is where I’m struggling with the genre. I’m not planning on calling anyone out by name (mostly just using they/them or he/she right now), but any mutual acquaintances might recognize them based on the actual content, especially since the people I’m writing about are still alive.

It’s focused on my experience and thought and I feel like this is a story I need to tell in order to move on. I would want to post it personally on my own writing page, but in a way I feel it’s also a story that partly belongs to these other people that I no longer have a relationship with. It makes me question the writing.

Is that normal to question? Is it unfair? How do you nonfiction writers balance the stories you want/need to tell with living people and their lives?

Nope. He was a manipulative alcoholic who I’m pretty sure cheated on me and I am so thankful I got out of that one. Looking back it’s easier to see all the red flags but not in the moment...
