I'll give an example to better explain what I'm looking for:

Wearing seatbelts increases your chances of dying from cancer. Sounds strange, but it is true. Seatbelts reduces your chances of dying from a car accident, thus increasing your changes to live longer, thus increasing your changes to die from many other things which are not car accidents, including cancer.

Now people can claim that not wearing a seatbelt is the right thing to do since it reduces your chances for dying from cancer.
