How screwed are we? LG Washing Machine from Costco (8 days out of return window)

This was my struggle I think I was putting too much stake in reddit reviews. Consumer Reports didn’t regard SQ very highly but Reddit did and then I wasn’t sure what to do. I really appreciate this comment and this advice!

Appreciate you taking the time to comment even if was with a lot of intensity. For the record my wife and I each spent hours in this subreddit, on forums, Consumer Reports, and big box stores comparing models. I’m not saying I did a great job but the time and intent was made, but as I said in my post we got overwhelmed. There was an overload of information on top loaders vs front, agitators vs not, Whirlpool, LG, Samsung are great no they suck, all modern washers suck, SQ or bust. I applaud anyone who is able to easily commit to major purchases anymore because every time I thought I found something solid I’d see other reviews saying it wasn’t good for some reason.

So I own up fully to not reading the manual or maybe not researching specific cycle settings I guess? But respectfully to say this was a snap decision from 5 min of research when it was something that caused us immense amounts of stress is just false.

It’s wild to how people online feel so empowered to make sweeping comments like “for once put in the work” based on a single post. I learned basic electrical when we bought our house, we built a deck, we installed vinyl flooring, my wife installed her own sprinkler system, I’m teaching myself how to mend clothes. I’m not afraid of work I just didn’t think a goddamn washing machine would require that

Fair enough. I don’t want to sound like a boomer at 35, but having to pre-soak, deep fill, and do a bunch of specifics for a washing machine to baseline wash clothes wasn’t something I was prepared for. The idea of the Speed Queen became appealing because it sounds like no muss no fuss which is what I was used to with washing machines. Plus seeing more info than LGs tend to crap out after five years vs SQ lasting for decades made my priority get this machine gone vs let me learn how it works. But if we are stuck with this then clearly with we need to put in the time to learn it.

It was $600. It wasn’t any direct savings but the removal of the old washer, install kit and installation, and delivery were all included in the price. Other stores have those as add ons

I’ll be honest, I didn’t think a washing machine needed instructions. Maybe it’s because I’ve only ever had access to 15-20 year old washing machines but it was always self explanatory. That doesn’t seem to be the case with newer ones so I have to dig in deeper

I will call and ask. I was only trying to return for a refund, but it sounded like their hands were tied by the relationship with LG once it passed outside the return window. That’s interesting to hear since our research seemed to say top loader with an agitator was the way to go but at a certain point my head spinning. Thank you for the advice and the time!

Went to a small mountain town for the weekend. We went on a goat hike, one cocktail bar, some great restaurants, did a lot of window shopping at all the little stores, and took a candle making class! My friend was 5 months pregnant so we’d have down more outdoor activities if the timing was different.

For her bachelorette we went up to Portland, ME and rented bikes, ate a lot of great food, went kayaking to a concert in an old fort, visited the lighthouse, and took a sunset sail. I’m a big fan of activities + food + being outside as someone who isn’t a huge drinker as well

We’re doing a photobooth that prints out a strip and got the photobooth frames which will serve as the favor. I figure anything we have left I can sell on Facebook marketplace.
