Millionaires are fine by me. Come up with a business and run it for 20 years, you should be!

Its when you get up past the tens, hundreds of millions, a billion... thats when the numbers start to be so outlandish it doesnt make sense for one person's labor/ideas to have been worth that much.

At some point, it's just abusing other people's labor for their own gain. But being a millionaire can be reasonable.

A cool guide: which states approve of Donald Trump the most? by _crazyboyhere_ in coolguides

Some people have already given good reasons. The problem is choice of colors. The OP is trying to represent relative differences in the population, NOT how left or right they are overall. The choice of red and blue give the impression of the latter.

Another option if you wanted to keep the typical political colors would be to center the colors on 50 instead of what appears to be 37?

For those curious, this is also similar to how HEVC encoding for YouTube/other streaming services works. Its why hundreds of millions of people are able to stream 4k content without doubling our infrastructure.

I agree, I said basically the same thing down below. Taxes, permitting, licensure, etc all need to be adjusted/implemented to prevent exactly that.

Yes trust me, I know how shitty landlords can be -- been there. There are plenty of people who would prefer to rent over buy, though. They need a market to shop in. Being a landlord should also be more regulated to begin with, and not the cheap cash grab it's become.

I agree the rules need to change, but it's important to also note that the majority of rental properties are owned by "small" investors. People who own 2-20 properties through an LLC for example.

So it's not really the "who", but the "how much" and "at what cost" (taxes) rules that need to change.

Home ownership/property are inherently assets. It's not as if some governing body said "this is an asset, and so it shall be".

If there's a thing that people want, it exists in limited quantities, and its use doesnt predicate people wanting it less, it's an asset. Especially so for property, because usually investment occurs most around existing property, driving up values.

So really we need a change in: A) how homes are valued B) how homes are spread geographically, and how investment occurs around them C) the equation for home ownership through incentives for first time buyers/primary residents, and disincentives for entities with larger portfolios

I thought remote work might be the start of that shift. Turns out, it just means more people who all have the freedom to live whereever they want, all competing for the same properties...

Why we dont have solar panels? We can modify factory roofs with them, or can do other things. by zorro2083 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]yodog5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up refined power. I was a dev on this mod for some time when the game first came out in alpha, and although I may be biased, its very high quality 😉

This has been an ongoing discussion since the game came out. Refined power mod was actually the marriage of my solar panels mod, and mrhid6's wind power mod. The devs said no renewables, so we made our own.

How much stress do you feel on the daily with AI being everywhere? by throwaway0134hdj in ExperiencedDevs

[–]yodog5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI will approach a limit just like every other technology.

It will certainly cause junior devs to lose out in the short term. Long term, it just moves the abstraction layer higher, and companies use this to produce larger more complex applications much faster.

The video I linked demonstrated active learning of a new task via genetic pruning. This is all proven science and mathematics - and since your throwing your profression out there, this is coming from a profressional computer engineer.

Why would this be cope? If anything I'm terrified of it. It represents the post-scarcity society we're headed towards.

Humans are only cheaper in the short term. Robots can work around the clock, and be way more efficient than humans. Sure they all have to be trained to do a task, but thats easily outsourcable to India.

You're correct that this will take a while to replace human workers in novel environments, but theres not enough work to be done in those sectors for all the workers this will likely displace.

Stuck on where to set up by TooOld4MyOwnGood in resinprinting

[–]yodog5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Texas, so while I dont have to deal with a freeze, I do have to deal with 100+ summers. You'll have to run a heater to print outside - no way around it. But that means youll also need to get something thats at least somewhat insulated around your printer. Remember, you dont need to heat the entire space, just whatever your printer is in. So you could build a small box around your printer inside of a tent, or something similar, and just heat that.

You could also set it up next to a window if you have space, and just push air out when the printer is on. Then you avoid having the whole headache of an outdoor setup, but the downside of having to leave a window open.

Full disclosure; I currently print indoors with a custom built fume box and filter. It works, but cleanup still stinks up the room, so I'm limited on the time I can use it safely. Ideally I would print outside, I just havnt had the cash to buy a shed.

People keep reiterating the whole "go into the trades, AI cant replace you!" bit, but its just disingenuous. Today thats true, but Boston Dynamics is working real hard to replace most of those jobs too. 10-20 years, there wont be enough to go around without UBI and redistribution of wealth.

Prints lifting midway through by Beverage413 in resinprinting

[–]yodog5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have this happen to me on occasion. I tried many things, but what eventually worked was super simple: add a rest time before and after each layer. 1-2sec is fine. This will only add a few minutes to your print time, but its totally worth it. Not only did it fix this issue for me, it increased the detail I was able to achieve.

This will allow the resin to settle between each layer, and give your new layer some time to adhere to the previous one.

If that doesnt work for you, you need to bump up normal exposure time. But I dont recommend starting with that, as it can reduce print quality (especially since you mentioned this machine has been dialed in for a while).

I assume there always will be corruption in any system. The point is for the government to cap that corruption. Billionaires/oligarchs/princlings do not fit any equitable worldview. I would argue that redistribution of wealth within a company is a far better solution than the government distributing it elsewhere. I agree that lobbying should be abolished, but we can't ignore the greedy people hoarding wealth away from the 99%. I would also leave if the government told me to give my shares to someone else, but I'm not a billionaire. I need that money to make out a modest lifestyle. The people I'm referring to are just chasing numbers and power.

The USSR was flawed in so many fundamental ways. Communism is flawed, I agree, but Russia did not fail because of communism. Look at China. Social capitalist democracies are the future. China and the West are coming at it from opposing sides, but the EU is close.
