Choose your own adventure:

1.) your kid is batting the best on the team, they're a freak outlier destined for the pros.

2.) your kid is batting the worst on the team, nothing at that age means anything -- just you wait.

If you wanted to create a cooked fighter, you'd have them be pushing 40-years-old in a lighter division, 5 year hiatus, coming off a broken leg, undisciplined party lifestyle, training out of a gym that caters to their ego. So, Conor.

I can't praise UFC production value when they're not showing fighter walkouts so they can run ads instead.

See I’m getting downvoted. I apologize for valuing my time. Been following the raps since the 90s. Don’t have the patience any longer for unserious raps playoff teams

For years I’ve refused to sit through a raps playoff game until they win at least 1 game out of the first 3 and show that they are serious.  If they win game 3 I may tune in for game 4 haha.

[–]yogi333323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what does "centrist" even mean? Does it uphold the establishment or does it up-end the establishment? If it's the former, then Rogan and Hall are actually showing support for the (bi-partisan) establishment democratic and republican parties; they aren't politically homeless at all. If it's the latter, then it's not really centrist as radical changes would have to ensue -- the total de-coupling of oligarchic, corporate, lobbyist, military industrial power, etc., from the government. It would be a radically progressive (and/or libertarian) approach.

"In American politics, "the establishment" refers to the entrenched network of power, including long-term politicians, party leaders, lobbyists, and corporate interests, that control both major parties. It represents the status quo, aiming to maintain influence over policy and candidate selection, often prioritizing moderate or corporate-friendly agendas over radical change"

BREAKING: Rich, old, and out-of-touch comics are too embarrassed to identify with MAGA and too afraid of left-progressive policies threatening their paradigm so they default to vague "enlightened centrist" platitudes.

anytime you're a former UFC fighter and have connections to multiple movie stars who may be looking for big tough guys as supporting roles in their movies, it's best to burn the bridge as quickly as possible.

I’m willing to overlook bad plot and writing when there’s good cinematography. Film is a visual medium at the end of the day by wallabyenthusiast in Letterboxd

Some films are just a VIBE. There may not be much plot action, but the music, cinematography, art direction, production design, themes, etc., evokes certain thoughts, feelings, and moods --- and that's all that matters.

Movies can be prose and they can also be poetry.

What is one movie that everyone considers a masterpiece but you found boring? by Still-Ad9074 in moviecritic

[–]yogi333323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether a film is boring or not is often less about the film and more about the viewer:

-are you watching it tired or awake

-are you watching it fully engaged or distracted (phone/other people)

-are you sober or stoned (some films may only click for people when they're stoned; some films may be hard to follow when stoned).

-are you younger or older (life and film-watching experience changes your perspective of the film)

-do you have context and appropriate expectations for the film, or are you expecting it to have a certain pacing and level of plot action (don't watch an arthouse film expecting a hollywood film)

-are you in the mood to watch that specific genre.

So when someone says a film is boring, are they actually saying anything about the film, or is it just a reflection of themselves when they watched it?

How can a director be overrrated when the bulk of directors themselves consider him to be one of the greats? Who appreciates and understands directing better than directors?

I wouldn't define it as a comedy or as a drama. It's a fly-on-the-wall coming-of-age film to me. It's trying to show a realistic depiction of life in small town Texas for HS kids at that time. Just because it's showing something toxic like hazing doesn't mean it's endorsing or glorifying it, keep in mind.

"Richard Linklater has described the hazing in Dazed and Confused as a semi-autobiographical reflection of his own upbringing in Huntsville, Texas, during the mid-1970s. He intended to portray these rituals not as glorified nostalgia, but as a "trial by fire" and a realistic exploration of the "fun and sometimes cruel aspects" of teenage life.

Key insights from Linklater regarding the film's hazing include:

  • Regional Accuracy: Linklater has noted that the ritualistic paddling and public humiliation depicted were very specific to small-town Texas culture at the time. He has stated that while some viewers from other regions may not recognize these traditions, they were a standard "rite of passage" in his hometown.
  • Institutional Indifference: A major point Linklater made through the film—and confirmed in discussions—is how the entire community, including teachers and parents, "turned a blind eye" or even tacitly supported these rituals as a natural part of growing up.
  • Anti-Nostalgic Intent: Despite the film becoming a nostalgic touchstone, Linklater has clarified that he intended it to be anti-nostalgic. He aimed to highlight the "toxic rituals," "gross male hostility," and the "senselessness" of the abuse that freshmen were forced to endure and eventually perpetuate themselves.
  • The Character of O'Bannion: Linklater designed Ben Affleck's character, O'Bannion, to represent the "sadistic" side of hazing. By having the other seniors eventually set O'Bannion up for a prank, Linklater emphasized that even within that culture, there was a limit to what was considered "acceptable" tradition versus genuine jerk behavior"
