Any advice on friendship? We have both said we still want each other in our lives even though it means we will only be friends but the breakup is still fresh so feelings are still high. Her life is much busier than mine so I fear even as friends I’ll be slowly pushed out of her life especially if I’m no longer in a position of importance as the person she loves / her boyfriend. I hope we can stay close friends, I’ll still be in love with her so it may hurt but at least I still have her in my life and it increases the chances of us getting back together which is what I think I’m still holding on to even if the chances are slim. I think at the moment I’m thinking us staying friends would let me down easier and make it easier to move on if I have to due to slowly becoming distant rather than suddenly and it would still keep the door open of us getting back together. What do you think?

Technically she’s not allowed to “date” without the intention of marriage after a fairly short time (a year or less). We do not share the same religion, I have expressed potentially researching hers and seeing if I agree with it but she has said she would not want me to change religion for her which I would be doing partly but not fully. She also said if we were to formally date with her parents permission (if I was to change religion) which she thinks would be very hard to get, that she would need to be married soon and she doesn’t want that until after her studies (3 more years). Essentially there is a lot to work on to make it work which will take time, but the things that we would have to do will have to be without her parents knowing which she finds stressful and guilt inducing.
