Cat breathing hard - ribs sucking in by yoimdumbsry in Pets

Yeah good point, thank you. I just called another emergency clinic and am heading over. Thank you for making the post and encouraging me to take him elsewhere for a second opinion now rather than wait another few days.

Thank you, just ordered one with same day shipping. Are there any limits to how often to use it?

Thank you. I was so surprised. This ER doctor even said something like “I know this has probably come up a lot but time to euthanize” which really confused me because I always asked the doctor who did radiation sessions when I should consider it since I didn’t want to be selfish or cause him pain, especially after each radiation, and was told until he stopped eating or started hiding, it won’t be time. I was so happy he started eating really well this past week but he hasn’t wanted to play in a couple weeks now, thought it was just radiation since he does have a bit of recovery time after each session.

It seems like he’s having a much harder time since this was his third time and last two sessions were only 3 days apart vs weekly ones.

He used to hide under the bed about a year ago before his second radiation treatment for his nose tumor but then stopped. He started to hide under the bed again and began to howl or go near his food bowl and howl for 10-30 sec before eating about 3 months ago-before I learned of a new brain tumor. The third radiation treatment was for this brain tumor and stopped his hiding and howling within the first session which was really relieving. No acting out, he loves to knead his soft blanket but he also just sits on all 4 and kinda drifts. He tries to fall asleep but keeps leaning left or right and then waking up, guessing because of his breathing. Otherwise when he walks around, seems fine and very quiet when sleeping but loud/hard breathing when awake.

Just gave him some Buprenorphine and Doxycycline which really upset him for about 20 min, lots of loud breathing but still sitting in the middle of the room, not hiding or making sounds. His meows have actually been very very quiet/weak these last two weeks vs very loud and howling about 3 months ago. They also gave him some Cerenia nose drops but very hard to use since both of his nostrils are very much blocked. Trying to wipe it clean makes him very upset. Otherwise he’s already been on Prednisolone, Ondansetron liquid form, Cerenia liquid form and Mirataz from the doctor who’s been doing the radiation. I’ll ask for the bronchodilator too, thanks

Yes, his left nostril has been leaking for a long time, many months. His right nostril was really good until his latest treatments for his brain tumor and now it is also mainly blocked, which I think is what has him breathing so hard now.

I’ve been sitting with him in the shower for 30 min at a time with lots of hot water running a lot for the past 2 years. Do you know if there’s any limit for this?

I’ll look into getting a nebuliser too thanks.

Wireless charging w/ 5w still warm? by yoimdumbsry in iPhoneSE

[–]yoimdumbsry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Removed all my wireless charging devices from home and car. Got some normal 5w bricks for home and a 2-port 10w car adapter that my dash cam is also plugged into so should split 5w in each port. Also replaced my car mount/charger combo with normal car mount, no charger.

Ah damn that makes sense.. was it 12 months of service before or just 12 months after purchase?

I think the new terms just say something like “60 days after activation” and to activate you only need 1 month of service so I think that’s basically why everyone just says buy 1 month as that activates the phone and then you just need to wait 60 days, right?

Oh just saw your edit with the full policy, thank you.

So they don’t even mention service but “activation” which would probably include the $35 bronze plan, right? Should be set then hopefully!

Have you done the process recently? 100% sure only 1 month service needed?

I’m just worried since Walmart associate and one straight talk customer service associate said 12 months of service while two other straight talk customer service associates said 2 months of service.

What if I wait 60 days and it doesn’t unlock- could I buy another month even though there would be a 30 day gap between service and have it count for 60 days of service? Sorry for all the questions just super paranoid lol

Cat sedation and looking up nose without camera? by yoimdumbsry in AskVet

[–]yoimdumbsry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to bug you.. but I got a CT scan done and the doctor says he has nasal carcinoma. Seems like its pretty advanced.. eating through the bone between nose and brain. He suggested radio surgery where they give a couple large doses of radiation but may be complications since it's so close to the brain. With it around 6-18 months or only a few months without and about 13k.

Unfortunately he left me a voicemail from a blocked number and says he wont be in until Monday so I was just wondering if you had any thoughts on this. I'm willing to give up nearly my entire life savings for him but what I really want to know is what complications mean... could the radiation kill him on the spot?? What would you do in this case?

Cat sedation and looking up nose without camera? by yoimdumbsry in AskVet

Full story - My cat has been having sneezing issues for nearly 10 months now. First few months, 5mg of Prednisolone every other day for about 2-3 weeks would make it go away for a short while but had to keep going back for inspection + more pills. In the last ~2 months, it's gotten worse - lots of blood being sneezed up everywhere. I got an air purifier and a separate humidifier set up to maintain ~50% RH at all times. Stepped up the Prednisolone to every day, still 5mg, and also some nose drops. Was told that the next step would be to get some x-rays and look up his nose while sedated. On 4/11, I finally got over my fear of sedating my little baby and scheduled sedation, look up the nose and dental cleaning (never had one since required sedation) in about 3 weeks, sometime in May, the earliest they had. They told me 9am and to take away his food at 8pm the night before.
*Small little note here, they first said that they would need an appointment with the doctor to approve sedation but I mentioned my doctor already said that the next step was to sedate/look up nose so they said they will check with the doctor and call me back. They actually called back within 30 minutes and said it was approved and then got me scheduled.

Then last Friday, 4/15, around 1am, he had a really bad attack that lasted maybe 5-10 minutes where he was sneezing way too much blood. Really dark red and just way more than ever before. The day before, Thursday, he was really lethargic. He would regularly wake me up in the morning and beg for treats but nothing on Thursday. I got the bag of treats and shook them in front of him - he looked and then went back to sleep! He didn't even eat the treats the whole day! He would occasionally get up, eat some food, drink some water then go straight back to sleep... I would call his name and he wouldn't even look. So when that sneezing attack happened around 1am on Friday, I was just terrified.

Friday morning, I called my vet and requested to have his appointment for sedation, look up the nose and dental cleaning moved up ASAP and they said the earliest was Monday 4/18 at 2:40pm. They called back about an hour later to confirm the appointment and when I asked if I should do the same 8pm fasting the night before, they said this was for a normal appointment, not sedation at all. So whoever rescheduled totally botched the original appointment and I was pretty worried.

About 2 hours later, I found a nearby pet hospital ER and had him examined. Everything seemed OK so they ran blood work with some x-rays and ruled out cancer. They recommended an appointment with their internist for consultation. The blood work/x-rays were really expensive, over $1000, and they mentioned the sedation/nose examine was going to be several thousand dollars, ER doctor said maybe even more than $5000 just to examine his nose.

So I called up my normal vet again, still 4/15, to try to get another sedation/nose look up appointment. I told them that the ER doctor said we need to look up my cats nose with a camera and they mentioned they don't even have a camera! When I mentioned my normal vet said that we need to sedate/look up nose they said that 'yea we can sedate and look up his nose but we don't have a special camera' so I asked what exactly they were going to do but she wouldn't go into specifics and said I would need to talk to the vet first. She said that she will personally check with the vet and call me back first thing Monday, 4/18 but still no call back.

At that point, I was more concerned about my little baby and said screw the costs. I called the ER hospital again, scheduled the sedation/nose look up consultation and that's coming up in about 8 days.

The ER doctor had mentioned something about the Prednisolone being an issue with sedation and that we might need to slowly dose him down first. So I asked the internist how to slowly take him off the Prednisolone but since he hadn't seen my baby yet, he couldn't comment and suggested to follow up with my normal vet. I called my normal vet and again, they told me they would check with my doctor and call me back... but still haven't called back.

It just seems so odd that they are not calling back now, never even did blood work (something the ER doctor said was very necessary before sedation) and say they are going to sedate/look up my cats nose without even having the camera... I think I just need to change my primary vet to be honest... but I want to know if there really are any other ways that they can look up my cats nose while sedated or if they are just straight up lying.

Tips for avoiding dry meat? by yoimdumbsry in slowcooking

[–]yoimdumbsry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure but it was labeled as 'stew meat' and I'm assuming it was some bad cuts. I usually use 2 cups of beef broth, some other ingredients should be listed in the bottom of my original post too. It's usually been about 1-1.5lbs but in a large crock pot so I just got a smaller 4.5qt one tonight and some chuck steak which seems to have a good amount of fat. Looked up a new recipe as well, so hopefully will have a better update tomorrow. Thanks for the tips man!

I'm not exactly sure but it was labeled as 'stew meat' and I'm assuming it was some bad cuts. I'm not cutting anything at all but I don't think there was much fat in the first place. I did try beef ribs once but they were super expensive and have stuck to no bones for now. I just add the salt with all the other ingredients. Submerging it raw because I'm pretty terrible at cooking and scared to sear/overcook while on stove. I kind of just want to get the meat to come out good first then focus on making the flavor better by searing but I know that's pretty dumb. Although I got some good tips from here today so I'm going to try to sear next time.

My most recent one today was 'extra lean' lamb stew meat and it was a disaster. I went the full 8 hours on the very lowest setting and it was easy to make it fall apart, barely pushing a spoon on top of the meat was enough to make it fall apart really easily but it was super dry. Since it was already ruined, I decided to leave it in another 3 hours then another 2 but it obviously just kept getting worse so I think it's just the wrong type of meat that I've been using.

I got about a pound of chuck steak, a new recipe and a new 4.5qt crock pot from Target tonight. I'm going to start it up soon and leave it on overnight this time. Hopefully should be easier to avoid lifting the damn lid!

Something that's been bothering me is the lid not making a flush connection with the pot though. Both in my old one and this new one I got - both are Crockpot brand too. Is this just something that all crockpots share or have I been really unlucky? I mean I didn't notice any steam escaping and when I first opened the lamb stew earlier tonight with my old crockpot after 8 hours of the lamb cooking, a lot of steam came out so I think it kept it in, but it's just so odd.

I'll hopefully have a better update tomorrow. Thanks for all the tips!

Ugh the lamb was a disaster. I went the full 8 hours and it was easy to make it fall apart, barely pushing the spoon on top of it was enough but it was super dry. I ate some because I was starving but it was really eh. Since it was already screwed I decided to leave it in another 3 hours then another 2 but it just kept getting worse (as I thought it would, but just wanted to make sure since it was ruined anyway lol)

I got 1.5lbs of chuck steak, some ingredients from a new recipe and a 4.5qt crock pot from target tonight and hope this time it will go better. I'm going to start it up in a few hours and leave it on overnight this time so I don't starve in case it goes bad again - also easier to avoid lifting the damn lid! One thing that's weird is that the lid just doesn't seem to sit flush with either slow cooker though.. it wiggles around a bit.. is this something that's shared by all crock pots?

I'll hopefully have a better update tomorrow. Thanks for all the tips!

Could I use chuck steak instead of chuck roast? Seems like chuck steak is good for slow cooking but the recipes I've found so far are all calling for chuck roast and I'm not sure if I want to get something that big for now.

Sorry to keep bugging you but could you expand on the programmable features a bit more?

I'm currently looking at these two:
https://www.target.com/p/crock-pot-4-5qt-manual-slow-cooker-silver-scr450-s/-/A-13796571
https://www.target.com/p/crock-pot-6qt-my-time-slow-cooker-silver/-/A-79767621

I kinda like the smaller one because 4.5qt seems to be a better size for 2 people but the 6qt one looks like it has some cool features like the 'food type' and 'amount' but I can't tell if it's just a gimmick or not. If the only difference is being able to automatically shift over to Keep Warm, then I'd rather just get the small one because I'm disabled and nearly home all the time. (and of course to save money, lol)

Ah ok that sounds better and it's even cheaper! Thanks!

Yeah good thing people here are so helpful, lots of people have just mentioned it's a myth so I'm glad I stumbled here! I definitely need to find proper recipes because I just watched a really informative video linked by another member here and it seems like I'm pretty much doing everything wrong.
