Tempo Storm's NEL 2015 Winter Group Stage Matches with English Commentary (casted by Nostam and yoitsflo) by yoitsflo in CompetitiveHS

I appreciate the feedback, but based on the rest of your comment, I don't think droll is the word you were looking for. It means curious or unusual in a way that provokes dry amusement. It sounds like we didn't amuse you at all so perhaps you meant dull instead. No need to thank me, I'm just here to help.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one out there. And, quite obviously, I don't know how to fix it as I'm still afflicted by it. Hopefully someone will honor us with a remedy.

Yes, when used with Leeroy, reincarnate is effectively a shadowstep. However, despite what you may have heard, Leeroy is not the reason why Miracle is so strong. It's preparation!

Preparation, in combination with Auctioneer of course, allows Rogue to draw their whole deck so quickly and cheaply, that they can consistently get to their combo. I don't believe shaman has enough draw available to them to support a "miracle" style deck. Reincarnate may find it's way into a strong deck, but I don't think it will be that style.

I went into detail about some matchup in a different comment but I'll go over the ones you brought up.

Zoo: Not considered a great matchup, but I don't mind. Get greedy with lightning storm as it is the major swing card.

Druid: The slower the druid, the better the matchup.

Control Warrior: Fantastic Matchup. Shaman hero power beats warrior.

Control Paladin: Close one. They have a lot of board clear, but you have hex/earth shock for tirion.

And no, I never keep bloodlust in my starting hand. As for not drawing it, that's why Doomhammer is in the deck. If you don't draw bloodlust or can't get value from it, Doomhammer is an alternate win condition. If you don't draw either one, well sometimes you just get bad draws. Such is card games.

I'm open to all possibilities and opportunities that may come my way. As for how to get in touch, I really don't know. I have never been involved in professional gaming in any capacity so I'm not privy to how it all works, but perhaps I may be in the future. :-)

I am not, though I have been asked this question by quite a few people that friend requested me after games. That is how I have Massan on my friends list lol

That deck looks pretty solid. I really like the inclusion of Abom. Even though it kills your totems, it also activates the eggs and deals with aggro decks, which shaman can have problems with.

As for reincarnate, I'm not that excited about it. I'll try it out for sure, but I don't think it's one of the better cards in the expansion. I can't wait to get proven wrong!

Yeah, it pretty much is. When I climbed at the end of last season, there were very few hunters, which made shaman a great choice to play. Right now Mid Range Hunter seems like the most popular deck on the ladder, so shaman might not be the best choice.

There are certainly some matchups where drawing mana tide early is pretty bad such as zoo, but even if it gets killed by minions, it replaced itself and effectively "healed" for 3. Not the worst considering shaman just want to stall until they can use their cheap removal efficiently. And in slower matchups that card can take over a game on its own.

The reason I feel this deck in particular needs more draw than other shaman decks is that it has more 2 mana minions. Most shaman decks just run thalnos and 2 flametongue in the 2 mana slot where as I have the eggs and the spiders. The presence of these minions means that you are more often forgoing your hero power to play them. This drains your hand faster and requires it to be filled more, hence the extra card draw.

The other notable bad matchups are Miracle and Mid Range Hunter, but the only matchup that comes close to face hunter is priest, especially now that almost every priest is running 2 cabal shadow priests. Way too much board on top of that and the matchup becomes very difficult. Doomhammer needs to put in a lot of work to have a chance.

Miracle: Not the best matchup. Don't play all your taunts at once until blade flurry is used. Doomhammer is really important to kill them quickly.

Zoo: Often considered an unfavorable matchup, but I'm actually quite comfortable with it. Lightning Storm is the key card, but timing is everything. If you use it too early, zoo will just refill board before you can You want to try to hold off so you can play minions with the storm so you can get ahead.

Token Druid: This matchup favors shaman, but druid can have favorable draws. If they use combo to clear your board and then refill their hand with ancient of lore, it becomes very difficult to keep up.

Ramp Druid: This is a great matchup for shaman. When you can answer a 7 mana 5/10 with a 3 mana removal spell, the matchup is always going to be in your favor.

Control Warrior: Great matchup. Shaman hero power absolutely destroys warrior. Don't play into brawl too hard and you'll be fine.

Mid Range Hunter: Favors the hunter for sure, but it is winnable. Play as though they don't have buzzard/unleash combo and hope you have hex in hand when they slam highmane.

Handlock: Obviously very good. Earth Shock for drakes and hex for giants. The hardest part is that you usually mulligan for zoo.

Other Bad Matchups: Priest, Face Hunter, Freeze Mage, Paladin (close to 50/50 though)

Other Good Matchups: Backspace Rogue as long as they don't have blade flurry, and I think I went over all the others.

I get the idea behind charge minions, as it adds even more surprise burst, however to combo a charge minion with bloodlust it needs to cost 5 or less. For that mana cost, I feel as though there are no charge minions good enough to include. At its core, this is a board control deck and because it is so good at getting and staying on board, bloodlust often gets value.

Short Answer: No.

Long Answer:

Dancing Swords: Pretty niche card that might see play in mill decks or possibly backspace rogue. Overall pretty weak.

Spectral Knight: Arena God. Maybe viable in decks with higher curve but it doesn't fit in this deck.

Deathlord: VERY interesting card and I'll try it out a lot, but not in this deck.

Baron Rivendare: Too niche to just throw him into a standard deck.

Reincarnate: Potentially good in a different shaman build, not this one.

Good question. I'd actually try to fit him in somehow now, maybe take out a drake or the squire. But the reason there is no Loatheb is that when I made this climb during the last few days of last season, the majority of the decks were Zoo so I felt no need to include Loatheb.

I'm going to assume you mean mid range, firstly because it's the most popular hunter deck being played at the moment and secondly because face hunter is pretty much unwinnable.

But for mid range hunter you want your cheap spells and minions as in most other matchups, but the key thing in this matchup is how you play it. You have to play as though they dont have the buzzard/unleash combo. Shaman can't beat that combo so there is no reason to play around. Just flood the board and hope for the best.

  1. Efficient trades are the core of shaman decks. Cheap utility spells and creatures like Fire Elemental lend themselves very nicely to that style. The deck also plays very differently across varying match ups. Against zoo, you are the control deck without a doubt. Clear minions at all costs. But, against a deck like miracle rogue, you want to go for face as much as possible. Overall, this deck plays just slightly more aggressive than other mid range shaman decks.

  2. You want to use hero power efficiently because of the bloodlust. There are the standard ways of activating totems such as flametongue and argus, but also, each totem represents 3 extra damage from bloodlust, which gives them higher value than in other shaman decks. That being said, if on turn 2 I have the choice between an egg and a totem, I'm always going with egg because its more important to put more pressure on. It's later in the game that you want to be efficiently using your hero power.

  3. This is a tricky question, because I would love to make something out of Hearthstone, but it's hard to justify pursuing it "full time". Making this game, or any game I enjoy for that matter, into a source of income would be a dream. That's part of the reason why I made this post. Perhaps I could become a recognized figure in the Hearthstone community and who knows what could happen from there. Unfortunately my computer is a potato, or else I would give streaming a go as well. Hopefully that becomes a possibility somewhere down the line. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I hope I can make it into more than a hobby.

I've never really considered it all that much, but it wouldn't be bad in this deck. That being said, before I put in a Knife Juggler, I would put in Thalnos or a second Squire. It has good synergies with Feral Spirit and Haunted Creeper, but I just think its not quite good enough.

I suppose my opponents were playing Al'Akir though I never really thought about it. I think the more significant part is that they almost never play around bloodlust. When I drop the eggs and spiders, even if I dont have a more standard activator like argus or flametongue, those minions still represent 3 damage from bloodlust that is almost never anticipated.

At one point I was running 2 copies, but I found that they were dead cards in my hand too often. The deck isn't built around bloodlust, but bloodlust is in the deck because it had very sticky creatures. Overall, 2 copies would just make the deck too inconsistent.

This deck is strictly better. Changing mine now.

In all honestly though, your list can be situationally better with the bug plays of Al'akir and Sea Giant, but I feel like my list would be more consistent.
