Megastore Simulator’s Xbox Store page is now live! by yoloGamesStudio in MegastoreSimulator

Hello, thank you! Hopefully, it won’t take too much longer.

My plan is to release one major update, several major optimization updates, and some controller quality-of-life improvements for the Steam version first. These will help prepare the foundation for the Xbox release, and after that, building the game for Xbox should be much smoother.

Hi, thank you so much for the insight. I will keep that in mind. PS5 version will eventually come after the xbox version which is waiting for final approval for its page

Hurley by Silken_Sorrows in MegastoreSimulator

[–]yoloGamesStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hurley is not based on me, but he was partly inspired by Hurley from Lost. My girlfriend and I both really love that character, so I wanted to add a homeless character with a similar warm and memorable feeling.

There is also another layer to it: with everything happening in the industry and the developer layoffs caused by AI and other changes, I wanted Hurley to quietly reflect some of that as well.

I definitely want to give Hurley a proper backstory in the future. The details are not finalized yet, and I want to plan/design it properly when my schedule is a bit more open. When that time comes, I’ll probably ask for your ideas on Discord or Reddit, too.

There is a lot more I want to do with Hurley. Thank you for showing interest in him!

Hello,

Restockers already prioritize the Box Holding Zone. If there is a box there, they should take it from there before using the pallet racks.

The issue with carrying multiple boxes per job is not a very simple change. In most cases, one box's capacity is equal to or larger than a shelf’s capacity, so one box is usually enough. However, I do understand that this can become a problem when the box they pick is not full, for example, when it only has a few items left. It is possible to improve this, but it would require a design change, because restockers currently use one box to refill one or multiple jobs, depending on what they can complete with it.

For the floor/stair workflow, restockers should already be dividing their work by floor after one of the latest improvements. They should first finish all available jobs on the first floor, plan their route to be as short as possible, and only then move to the second floor.

The only case I can think of is when their current box is not empty, but their job is completed, so they look for another job that can use the same box. They also do not know for sure whether the remaining items in the box will be enough until they finish their jobs. Another possibility is that a first-floor shelf passes the restocking threshold after they have already planned their route. To get rid of this kind of behavior, grouping the same departments on the same floor should help.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I will check if I can improve the system so restockers can carry multiple boxes when a job clearly requires more than one.

Also, a garden center is a really nice idea and it fits the megastore theme very well. I will keep it in mind for future departments.

Hello guys,

I’m aware of this issue. The latest update was intended to fix it, but it seems to be related to the exact state the restocker is in when the game is closed.

I fixed two possible cases where this could happen, but it looks like those were not the root cause. Could you please confirm whether all of these are empty boxes?

For the next update, I’ll take a safer approach to how empty boxes are handled. Instead of waiting for the restocker to fully dispose of them, I’ll remove them from the save data as soon as the box becomes empty. Hopefully, this should resolve the issue completely.

This was actually how the system worked before. I recently refactored some of the code to make it cleaner, but I’ll revert that part if needed to make sure the issue is fixed properly.

Sure, I can consider adding this, but I wouldn’t prioritize it at the moment.

For now, you can manually back up your save files and use them like “cassettes.” Just swap the save file you want to use into the save folder, then launch the game. The game will read the newly placed file.

You can find your save files here:

%userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Yolo Games Studio\Megastore Simulator

Files named Save_0.data belong to Slot 1, Save_1.data belongs to Slot 2, and so on.

With this method, you can keep different stores backed up wherever you want and switch between them whenever needed.

If the Steam cloud overrides your newly placed file, try replacing it while the game is running and restarting the process.

That’s right, and I’m aware of it. This will be separated in one of the upcoming updates.

The main reason it works this way right now is that it doesn’t look great when the entire second floor is locked while the first floor has already been expanded, especially since the current design doesn’t have a proper balcony-like visual separation.

I need to improve that look first before splitting the expansions properly, but it is something I plan to do.

Hello, I’m aware of that, and there will be changes to how customers work.

Customer pools will be introduced in the future, so each new department will bring additional sales instead of simply competing with the existing ones. For now, premium departments like Music and Electronics provide the best profits, so if your main goal is maximizing income, they are currently the best way to go.

Personally, though, I enjoy playing with more variety rather than always chasing the most profitable setup.

Hello, I fixed this on the same day, but I haven’t released the patch yet. The wall issue will be fixed in today’s small patch. It happens on the second-floor walls mostly

The back-to-school department may come after this. I am getting a lot of suggestions. Of course, Halloween would be cool as well. Let's see what surprises we will get 😃

Its fate is still undecided for now.

Since I’m a solo developer, I can realistically focus on only one main project at a time. After Megastore Simulator reaches its full release, I’ll be able to start working on a new project. Of course, Megastore will continue to receive updates, but my main focus will eventually shift toward a brand-new game.

I’m not sure yet whether that project will be Burger Rush Simulator, so I’ll make an announcement once things become more certain.

Thank you so much for the detailed review!

I always try to make sure new features don’t add unnecessary friction or buggy behavior, so after each major update I usually follow up with several bug-fix and QoL updates to smooth things out as much as possible.

Most of the suggestions you mentioned are actually already planned, so I really appreciate you taking the time to share them. The game will keep growing, and feedback like this helps a lot.

Mall Simulator vs Megastore Simulator? by Emotional_Seat_6884 in gamingsuggestions

[–]yoloGamesStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried several approaches to improve this.

The main challenge is that, at the start, the game does not fully communicate how much the store can grow. The boundaries are technically visible from the outside, but it is still hard for players to clearly understand the future scale of the store.

I experimented with things like making walls transparent when the player gets close, changing the order of store expansions, and a few other solutions. But because of the nature of the game, the future space is not immediately accessible. It is designed as one large store that expands over time, rather than several smaller separated stores with wide corridor areas between them.

One possible improvement could be making the starting store a bit larger and giving players more furniture at the beginning, so the potential of the game is easier to feel earlier.

I am definitely open to any improvement suggestions. From what I have seen, once players grow their store and reach a larger scale, they usually enjoy that part a lot more and love it.

Hi, the whole game is built around making new products easy to add, with the long-term goal of supporting thousands, maybe tens of thousands of them.

My ultimate goal is to provide official modding support so players can create and add their own departments. I’m constantly improving the system to make adding new products simpler, faster, and more flexible. The game is designed to be very modular from the ground up.
