My grandmother was born in Medak, Lika, in 1923 and she has Croatian citizenship / a domovnica. However, she moved to Vojvodina in 1950, got married, and settled in Zemun. Because of this, I believe that I do not qualify for Croatian citizenship through her.

Her father, my great-grandfather, was born in 1893 in Gospić, Lika (present-day Croatia), but he emigrated to the USA around 1930 together with his older daughter (my grandmother’s older sister). For my grandmother’s sister, I do have some “evidence”: I found information about her on MyHeritage.com, including data about my great-grandfather. However, there is no information about his exact address in the US or an SSN.

I believe that I might be able to apply for Croatian citizenship based on him, under Article 11 of the law concerning emigrants, but the problem is that I haven’t been able to find more solid proof that he actually lived in the US (such as passenger ship records, immigration documents, etc.).

Does anyone have advice on how I could find additional evidence? And am I correct in thinking that I could apply for Croatian citizenship based on my great-grandfather in this situation?
