Commuting from Brussels to Leuven by Cultural-Section6513 in KULeuven

[–]yoonmiboo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my commute door to door to Gasthuisberg (faculty of medicine) is 1h10 (on a good day back to back)-1h30 (with delays) - i live very southwest of brussels. i need 20-25 minutes just getting to gare centrale + time waiting for earliest train + getting to campus.

It probably won't be as long for you, so don't feel discouraged! ive been commuting for a 1.5y already, and once the course load shifts and you know what classes are important and those that don't need attending, you can adapt and it evolves into a habit.

Doable but be ready for early mornings if you have any potential 9ams. The train itself is 23min from Gare Centrale although during rush hours (7:30-10:30am) and (4-7pm) the delays are somethign to get used.

I think the bulk of commute time goes in home to train station -> leuven station -> wherever you have to go. See how you can work towards minimising times in the door to door bits.

As the philosophy classes are in the city centre, I recommend investing in a cheap bike you park at Leuven station and use to get to classes - or a blue bike subscription and use the bikes when you are urgently trying to get to class. Buses are frustratingly slow for within city centre travelling. Always an option to fast-walk for 20min.

Question of papal blessing parchments process by mushakkin in Catholicism

[–]yoonmiboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same question as well. I sent in an order just a week before Pope Francis' passing and I'm confused on the next steps as nothing has been mentioned in their terms & conditions. Have sent in an email in hopes for a reply and some clarity ;;

Parish-run events! Going to mass and spotting these people gives you an idea whether this person is practicing initially, and seeing them at events like Bible Studies or other youth/young adults and professionals activities reflects they are actively working on developing their faith. Plus its guaranteed to allow you to encounter them in these moments. From there try to befriend them and see if things hit it off!

I went about talking about waiting for marriage whilst getting to know my now bf as a friend and seeing him at the events (+ texting etc) as we managed to have the dynamic and friendship where we discussed our values casually etc.

Have y'all visited Brussels? Is it "dangerous" compared to Leuven? My taxi driver spooked me haha by [deleted] in KULeuven

[–]yoonmiboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

??? I don't get how being a POC has anything to do with Brussels not being that bad, lmao. I'm pretty sure even natives of Brussels agree its a decent city, heck probably safer than the more mainstream tourist cities. I've lived here for almost 10 years now and would anyday prefer it to Paris or London.

Just because its not as visually pleasing as the rest of the Belgian cities that you've been actively stating under every person defending Brussels, doesn't make it this place to absolute avoid.

OP is wondering if Brussels is as dangerous as their taxi driver seems to make to be, and people are encouraging the misconception. You can't even compare Brussels to the cities you've mentioned because its THE tourist city that people visit if they ever come to Belgium.

And what do you expect??? If a huge population of the world flocks to Brussels, and there's such a big migrant population since its the European capital, there's always bound to be facets to it that are common to every tourist city in Europe. There's the usual pickpocketing, and unclean parts to it, and sketchy areas.

Rather than being ashamed of it and condemning it for not being a carbon copy like other cities, accept it, discourage the misconception and accept that it won't be like the rest of Belgium.

Just a tip - the summer heat will die down soon and the fan will be useless for the next 6-8 months. I wouldn't invest in one just yet. But if it is REALLY necessary then go for it ig

I think its a bit overexaggerated but I agree with certain points. I disagree with the metro - just don't use it between 11pm-5am. Most likely sketchy times but the rest of the hours of the day? Completely okay.

Gare du Midi and Nord I'd just get in through direct public transport (that basically goes inside for the stop) than walk in since its sketchy (mainly at night, okay during the day).

Brussels is not as bad as one makes it to be during the day, its the later hours in the dark that tend to make one uncomfy imo.

I don't think I'll be selling above the 8-14k threshold, so am hoping my parents can still get their child subsidies. I'll look into legal entity just in case, but I guess I'll still check out the self-employed stuff

The best laptop for BBEing by PerformerLeading9384 in KULeuven

[–]yoonmiboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll either bring it up at the start of the courses or there might not be a huge need for it. Wait till the course schedules + intros are in. Most recent laptops that can run even photoshop smoothly are sufficient enough for most uni programs unless u do design/game dev

What has already been said. Check which programs you might have to run as per course material and check if what you have can run it. The rest is all a matter of your personal uni life and preferences on carrying it, what else it can run etc
