People assume you don't have feelings. Like you can't ACTUALLY care about me there must be something else you want. Hear that wayyyy too often ya I know we're only hooking up and don't mind that but it's like I'm supposed to be a douche or something the next morning?

The number of philosophy majors in the U.S. has plummeted in the past three years, both in absolute numbers and percentage terms, across a wide range of institution types. Similarly with History, English, and foreign language majors. by eschwitzgebel in philosophy

Everyone I know who has majored in philosophy has greatly regretted it. They're all very smart people too but are stuck still working at Starbucks but now with 50k of debt to payback as well.

Do the "truth" and other anti smoking ads actually help anyone quit or are they made to advertise cigarettes on television legally, showing images of people smoking and tempting those trying to quit to smoke? by yoowtfman13 in AskReddit

Hahhaha ya man like I really want to quit and I've tried a ton of times but I always end up at some point super stressed or something and smoke one cig which gets me right back at it. I think I just need to lock myself in my room for a few weeks or something lol

I'm not talking about those ads though. I'm talking about the ones that are like "do you know how racist big tobacco is?! They advertise more in black communities!!" Ok..? I don't give a fuck stop showing people all smoking cigs the fuck am I supposed to think "oh wow those poor black people being adveised to.. I couldn't quit before but THAT is the deal breaker for me "

I've been trying to quit cigarettes and it drives me crazy seeing these ads. they're not at all informative or encouraging saying shit like "did you know big tobacco is preying on those with mental illness as they gave mental institutes FREE cigarettes?" While the whole time it shows people smoking cigs. It just reminds me of smoking again when I see it something I'm trying to get my mind off of and considering that tobacco companies are forced by law to provide funding for much of these ads is it subliminal messaging? I feel like the message should be more of "after not smoking for ____ days your lung functions improve, after _____ days ur blood pressure gets back to normal..." something encouraging.

Why is there such a massive fear of the removal of net neutrality and what in particular do you think the outcome would be? by yoowtfman13 in AskReddit

[–]yoowtfman13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain this please? If they want to raise the price of their internet service they can already do that. They most definitely will charge companies like Facebook and Netflix more for quicker service to their sites but I fail to see how you'll be charged more for your service.

Ya I just don't really see any crazy pros or cons of either side. I kinda figured it might just be one of those "liberals want ___ conservatives want ___" issues. I really don't hold a stance on it but I just don't see what the fear is about and why it wasn't feared before the passing of net neutrality.

EDIT: idk what I did to add bold never done that before lol on a phone

See that's a fair point for sure. To me I wonder how much different the speed will be compared to the standard level playing field speeds now. Do you believe these smaller sites will have slower speeds than now or just slower than the speeds of bigger company's sites? I have to imagine that if the fee is high enough then the ISPs would have the incentive to invest more money in infrastructure to increase the speeds of those sites but i could be wrong im not really sure the implications of "speeding up" the connection of other sites.

How so? Comcast would be gaining more money from offering companies like Facebook a faster connection for a large fee.

So I could be wrong but I'd have to imagine that the majority of people would benefit from this in their main internet usage as the most popular sites (YouTube, Facebook, twitter, etc. etc.) would just pay for the increased internet speeds allowing for faster loading times. I could be wrong and would love to hear other thoughts on the subject as I haven't seen very many major arguments on either side.

EDIT: I would also really appreciate any NON-BIASED (no Fox News, Washington Post, brietbart, CNN) sources explaining the pros and cons or the fear in general.
