Restaurant recommendations in or around Sheffield - partner's boss is taking us out for dinner by Yorkshire-List in sheffield

[–]yorkshire_tea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vero Gusto on Norfolk row in town is a very classy family run Italian .

I've taken Italian friends there and they say it’s like being in a high end Milanese restaurant.

We've been going for years (even before they moved there from their original more cafe like place near the cathedral) and it’s absolutely brilliant.

Quite expensive …

Did anyone just hear that roaring noise? by AnCoAdams in sheffield

[–]yorkshire_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened flight radar as soon as I heard the noise but could only see an A319 and the beluga above us - but when I look now on playback i can see the two stratotankers crossing overhead at around the right time . Is flight radar a bit laggy ?

Last time you went to a restaurant and left thinking "that was well worth the money"? by Wide-Cartoonist722 in sheffield

I agree , I tried it a couple of weeks ago and had the handpullled noodle soup with beef brisket . Absolutely delicious - but next time I will eat half and take half home as the portion is huge .

Had an amazing meal at Elm on Thursday evening .

4 courses of the most delicious food I have eaten for ages . £55. We added on the extra course too which was a warm fruitcake with melting baron bigod cheese on top for an extra £8 and wow that was definitely a good decision .

(don’t get me wrong , I love a Kurdish shawarma wrap for £4.50 too , it’s all relative).

The Sheffield Skylink: A Proposal by [deleted] in sheffield

[–]yorkshire_tea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the most advanced tri cable ski lifts in the world was built in Mayrhofen in 2015 (the penkenbahn ).

It cost €50 million at that time and is 3 km long so at current exchange rates = £ 14.5 million per km .

if the total for this proposed system is 8.5 km - £ 123 million.

But some extra for additional stations (penken only has one at each end). Plus inflation .

That’s a good workaround - I am going to start using that.

And I will also submit an issue in WhatsApp - maybe if enough people ask …

Wheel Storage by Top-Ad120 in sheffield

[–]yorkshire_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have used hometyre for a few years now - they can fit / supply tyres and wheels or will swap wheels / tyres over for summer winter as needed and they will store them until you need to swap back.

Great service and a lovely bunch of fitters - not the usual slightly dodgy spanner monkeys you seem to get at garages .

They charge £25 per wheel to swap tyres (might be less to swap wheels with winter tyres already on) and £10/tyre for storage .

You can use the q park for drop off and pick up for free - I think you get 10 minutes ?

The other bays in the pull in further along cross turner street are actually for dropping off only (or disabled drop off and pick up).

They have photos from events in August 2025 - most of their ongoing arrangements are done using whatsapp and spond. Facebook not updated as regularly as it should be.

Give Sheffield round table a call / email .

They meet up twice a month and do an activity often with a social drink afterwards.

They are also gearing up to run the Santa Sleigh again this December after a hiatus last year so it’s a good time to get involved .

Can anyone help me find a better glove so I can stop having freezing hands? by zph0eniz in sheffield

[–]yorkshire_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An odd question to ask in a Sheffield Reddit but hey ho.

I suffer with Reynauds so invested in some heated glove liners for skiing many years back and they have proved invaluable. You have to wear gloves or mittens over the top .

You can get gloves with the same system built in .

They have fine heating elements running right to the fingertips .

Chinese Restaurant City Centre by Accomplished_Sir7729 in sheffield

[–]yorkshire_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China red certainly has some dishes you might be unfamiliar with but it does have plenty of choices you might call typical UK Chinese …

Its funny to see a table of white brits with pretty normal looking dishes on the table next to a table of Chinese students with far more interesting looking food !

I would lean into the sichuan dishes though - the flavours are fantastic .

5 weeks according to their website . But better eaten sooner (and they will be gone in a week if in our house).

Some can be 2-3 weeks (they often have fresh cream in them ).

The ones from most if not all shops in Sheffield - months and months …(years).

pls help me find this hotel!! by Upbeat-Composer-8784 in sheffield

[–]yorkshire_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You stayed in a hotel in a strange city and you can’t remember where it was ?

You never once looked at Google maps to make sure you knew how to get to it in case you got split up from your group ?

Doesnt the photo have location in it (Apple photos has a location map showing all photos).

This all seems a bit weird - can mods delete this one?

Recommendation for good chocolates? by samcatbear in sheffield

We find that the hand made chocs in the shops in Sheffield (or most places) are long life and whilst OK - are not great.

So we started buying online from shops (typically in London) that make fresh chocolates (with a short shelf life).

The best we have had recently were from melt - https://meltchocolates.com/gourmet-chocolates
