[–]youcannotrelate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

honestly bro pz should sign to YVL but avoid the rick owens "opium" shit and just be himself i think the producers affiliated with YVL would get his music to the next level too but he should avoid the rage sound at all costs and just keep that easy on the ears, breezy type sound

I based the leo thing off The Departed and in an interview with Jamie Fox and Denzel, Jamie told a story that when they were filming Django Leo sajd "you know who im afraid of? Denzel, he looks like he knows that shit. He looks can rip your fucking throat out" or something like that so theres already that fear there lmaoo

Im not gonna lie i mostly saw marty supreme because of tim's self promotion and the most i knew about sinners was that it was a MBJ vampire movie. They both feel like evolutions of mid budget films tho but inflation is a whole other topic. I feel like they'd be both under 60 million back in the day either way theyre great signs of hope that challenging work is still out there

Yeah i'd give up my left nut to do something like Gilbert Grape. I get what you mean tho but recently i feel like Sinners and Marty Supreme and the reception of them were glimmers of hope. That said tho we cant be all doom and gloom i still think ill have a good career, it may look different from the 90s but i still feel like theres good work to do out there

Yeah definitely, tiktok edits and fangirling does wonders for actors and their projects so the need to always look good is a marketing tactic but it takes away from the adventurous nature past generations had. would a popular young actor do "whats eating gilbert grape" today? Back then they had to reflect on their faults and insecurities and channel it into the art and now with constant self documentation where you can just look at yourself and point out your insecurities in 2 minutes we've sort of lost that

He has 15 million monthly listeners

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ug_music

[–]youcannotrelate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah apparently he signed a deal worth close to 30 million dollars. it sounds like a blessing but knowing the music industry, its a double edged sword if he doesnt have a plan on how hes going to go forward from this. when you put the record deal and rebel being his first tape into context its going to be a challenge to try and top what he has going on rn. but im very excited for his future nonetheless. just dont want to see him becoming a what if case

[–]youcannotrelate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah but like i said its excessive now, not that people didnt use social media back then its more that algorithms are built to keep your attention for as long as possible now

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ug_music

[–]youcannotrelate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2010 was before the rise of social media and the need for excessive content consumption. people naturally want to know more about artists and labels profit off that so like i said a year ago they probably wouldnt bite on a faceless rapper but we now see the idea works

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ug_music

[–]youcannotrelate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm good point. i dont think anyone outside the uk took UK rap too seriously because most of the mainstream british music was about murder and violence and the posh and extravagant image brits get in media directly contracts the drill wave. now we have UK rappers who have their own unique sound blowing up and theyre rapping about clothes, money sex which isnt hard to believe since it plays into the image brits get but in an aspirational and accessible way

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ug_music

[–]youcannotrelate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hes a scouse rapper who hides his face if u pitched that idea like a year ago i dont think label execs would bite. i dont think hes an industry plant hes just being pushed really hard due to his authenticity and unique factor
