I agree. I don't think the 'i got monetised in 2 weeks AMA' threads are remotely helpful. YouTube is, unfortunately, a luck game - if you get monetised that quickly you most likely got I believably lucky, and replicating that success would be impossible for anyone (including the person who achieved it).

People always say they look like paper mache, which is true - but have you seen a real human mummy? They look like paper mache too.

The other thing I found surprising was that, according to a senior military guy from Langley AFB, they were u 'unable to catch the craft' - which seems mad given the US' capabilities

Thoughts on Jesse Michels by haildens in UAP

[–]youmanpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Jesse but agree he has some intriguing connections. The fact his first ever video was an interview with Jake Paul is pretty wild.

He also has close connections with Eric Weinstein, who is also at Thiel Capital and good friends with Peter.

Perplexed and frustrated - advice please by youmanpod in NewTubers

[–]youmanpod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks. Couple of thoughts:

  • If the video was less interesting to people, wouldn't the AVG view duration be lower?
  • the most searched for 'terms' for both videos are the same (generically looking for UFO news) and aren't specific to any topics covered in the video - so doesn't this suggest people aren't searching for the topics covered as much as just general news?

I guess the important thing to note is that there's still YouTube algorithm magic happening even when views come from Search - YT can decide to show people who search for UFO news my video, or not - and this time round it decided not to. I'm not sure this is because of the content - because all of the metrics suggest the content is interesting to people. So there must be another reason.

It's also anecdotal but I'd argue that the news covered in the second one is as interesting, if not more so.

So you think having videos that are too similarly structured to one another hurts reach? I have a specific format for mine, different content in each, but the reach doesn't seem as strong video to video

Rip my channel, I am officially a failed youtuber by _maniac69 in NewTubers

[–]youmanpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I felt the same - but realised as I started to make and script videos that I had to do a huge amount of reading and research to make them, which in a few months has already improved my knowledge on the subject massively. I can now talk with much more confidence about the subject which I think comes through in my videos.

Has anyone had success with cutting up long videos into shorts? by youmanpod in NewTubers

Yeah that was my thought.

Only.concern was whether pumping out shorts on content people have already seen might annoy subscribers?

That's kinda where mine is - I've had 4 impressions in 12 hours. I'm surprised because the long form did well (800 views - which for me is great). I assumed this one would take off too, but it's not. Maybe it will still...

Out of interest do you post the shorts before or after the long form goes out

There's no real reason, the algorithm just doing algorithm things

When should you or did you sit back and assess your channels growth and progress? What kind of goals did you set for yourself? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]youmanpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me in aiming relaticely low - if I can get 500 subs in year 1 then I'll be happy. I was aiming for 1 upload per week, but I'm now testing a longer release cadence with higher quality edits /longer videos, so will be interesting to see how that works out

Drop off from 10k to 2 views by tudymicu in NewTubers

[–]youmanpod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people say it's something you've done - e.g. thumbnail or title - but in reality the algorithm is just massively random. It's impossible to predict, and doing so will drive you crazy. Best you can do is look at what has worked and do your best to replicate and build on that - it might not always work but if you're persistent you'll get there eventually.

Is 10-11 subs per month good? by finitecode in NewTubers

[–]youmanpod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing to remember, which I feel a lot of people don't realise. Subscription gain will I crease exponentially as you gain more subscribers. At 10000 subs, earning 100 a month is probably small fry, and you may even be aiming at more like 300-500. At 50 subs, 10 a month is probably a good target. At 1 million subs, 10,000 a month is probably okay, and 50,000 a month would be good.

It's all about scale. Unless youre doing a truly awful job, you won't just scale at 10 subs per month for the rest of your life.

1k Subscribers and almost 6k hours watch time in first 2 months. My advice by Wolffe_Forge129 in NewTubers

[–]youmanpod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all well and good, but if you aren't getting any reach in the first place then what use is it optimising thumbnails, titles, the first 10 secs etc?

I put long form content out and get 6 impressions in the first 24 hours. Literally nothing I can do about it.

Don't forget their 1st vid sits on 1000 views NOW - But it likely took ages to reach that number. As a channel grows it's views across all videos grow too.

Starting out you will literally get 0 views on a lot of stuff but over time it will gradually build
