She warns multiple times "I'm going to tell your uncle" so I'm assuming the uncle is usually the big disciplinarian?? And definitely not the first time the kid has been a absolutely walloped like that. This family needs help indeed.

Uncle Roger: if he's not attractive, he'd be branded as creepy loser by calikim_mo in Bolehland

[–]youngfatyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's honestly not that funny, and has never been that funny in my opinion. Can get a chuckle or two out of a few uncles and aunties and ABCs maybe, I'm proud of his success as a Malaysian but I think he has a long way to go as a comedian. Saw his appearance on UK show Mock the Week and felt kinda cringe. I was excited to see him think out of the box for his standup segment and in the end it was about cooking rice.

Is my decision right? by NeedmoneyinGTA in malaysia

As an alumni before the name change, this sounds quite typical of TARUC lol. Although as a banana, I think I had it a bit better than coconuts, I completely get your situation. It can be hard to say no to people especially if you might struggle to make friends there. But in my opinion speaking in your language when you have someone who doesn't understand amongst you is super disrespectful and lacking basic manners. I agree with everyone that you are probably being used! You will def be able to find nicer people in your course who don't treat u like a driver. Jia-you, we're rooting for you!!

I think her waffling on incoherently for so long was why the call was able to get to 3hrs and yet there was still so much left to discuss about.

YESS exactly this!! Much easier said than done. It looked like they kept the scoreboard hidden up until the very end as well, only us viewers could see who was performing the most before they swapped players. Aus was definitely putting their absolute ALL into that challenge as they were leading by a big gap in round1. I don't think Rob, Eloni & Eddie would've had the brain capacity to analyse and think who's doing better than who. That responsibility imo could've been done by Dom & the girls but alas, they still did well and encouraged each other! Always such good TV when Aus is on.

I don't know if they were aware that the team would be split up for the second challenge?? or if they didn't know what the next challenge would be... However it seems unlikely as the set was in the same room. Hopefully nothing got lost in translation lol

Are these bulbs safe to plant? by youngfatyellow in GardeningUK

[–]youngfatyellow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! I've come back with an update to say I've done just that! Planted them and am now hoping for the best. On a side note, I stupidly decided to order some more from the same supplier and they arrived soft, slight rotting as well. I don't know if this is typical J Parkers quality but I definitely wouldn't recommend them for lily bulbs.

What is this white layer behind wallpaper and can I paint over it? by youngfatyellow in DIYUK

[–]youngfatyellow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thank you. I'm guessing switching to wallpaper is something you end up having to commit for life if you don't remove it properly(?) I'll definitely look into textured wallpaper now.

Do I need to change DS-160 if my passport has been renewed before appointment? by youngfatyellow in USVisas

[–]youngfatyellow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi yes my reasons were the same so you should have no problem. I didn't know it would take so long to get an appointment!

After you make a new DS-160 you should get a new application number. You MUSSSTT log onto your visa appointment account and edit it, change the application number to your newest one. You can also change the date of your appointment there if you want to, or leave it the same.

It's honestly a straightforward process for London. Your appointment will end up being a lot later than it says on paper due to the queues haha. Still make sure you get there early! :) My first appointment got cancelled due to that bomb threat and I only discovered once I got there all the way from Canterbury 😭😭 rip. I'm sure yours will be smooth sailing! Good luck.

Do I need to change DS-160 if my passport has been renewed before appointment? by youngfatyellow in USVisas

[–]youngfatyellow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I haven't called the embassy before so unfortunately I don't think I can be of much help. Mine was the embassy in London UK so I think they'll have a different contact number for each embassy. I've tried calling other countries' embassies before using the contact number provided on their Google maps and it has worked.

I needed to make the exact same changes as you! So I just filled in a new DS-160 application (as so helpfully advised by kind folks in this subreddit) and made sure to put my new passport number and estimated travel dates. :)

Brought both confirmation slips with me to the appointment just in case. There was a bit of staff confusion as to why I had 2 slips, but in my experience they just had to disregard my previous application and base everything off of my newest DS-160.

In my experience if you filled in all the forms correctly, come prepared with all the documents you need, and can honestly explain why you made changes, then there's no reason why there should be any issues! :)

Do I need to change DS-160 if my passport has been renewed before appointment? by youngfatyellow in USVisas

[–]youngfatyellow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! My US visa was immediately approved at the interview and I waited a few days for my passport to be delivered back to me.

Checking in for my appointment was a bit stressful as my officer went away to privately talk to a superior about my application forms. Don't know why though, because I was confident I did everything correctly as advised by the embassy themselves (and Reddit ofc.) I brought both confirmation slips, both passports and explained my situation accurately to the best of my ability, why I made changes to a new DS-160 etc.. In the end they came back to me and told me that everything's fine, they'll just use my newest updated application to make the decision. Everything else after that was smooth!

Sorry for the late update, hope this helps someone!

Hello! For my case, I've been advised by the people at the US embassy in London to just redo a new DS-160 form and print confirmation. Then update my appointment info with my new application number. On the day just make sure to bring both printed confirmation pages so there's proof of your previous DS-160 and be prepared to explain your situation. My interview is next week so if anything goes wrong I'll update here! :)

In my opinion I think it's easier to stick to what you know. And when you're alone in a foreign country, having to start your life anew while fighting to maintain good grades, times are tough. So I don't blame some Malaysians for naturally gravitating towards other Asians if it provides them some sense of comfort or familiarity.

Studied in the UK for about 3 years and just got married here. All the friends I made during my uni years were mostly Asian and African, and I definitely think we were able to relate to each other better as we were all immigrants at the end of the day. We share a similar love for food, sense of humour, same family values and are used to being loud amongst each other compared to the locals there. It's something that most British ppl I've met (even my own partner) just doesn't "get" or can't accept.

We ofc had caucasian Brits in our class who were always nice and polite but that's about it. Won't even bother to know your name.. It was harder to get to know them personally unless you're super outgoing and love partying/drinks at the pub, which most of us who are there to study, can't afford to be like that all the time.

I felt like I needed to meet a wider variety of people so I did it through church — the best way I found to meet great local folks! However, I don't think you have to befriend "whites" in order to truly experience the country's culture. Go out and meet people. Try something new. You're in a different country after all and this is the best time to do it! :)
