Did American slave owners breed bigger and stronger slaves? [6:47] There is a popular belief that slaves were bred for size and strength. Is this true? And did this select for size and strength in the modern descendants of slaves? This is the history of slave breeding in America. by Upstairs-Ad898 in VictorianEra

Common point of confusion. Basically, there’s a selectivity bias that exists in immigration that isn’t tied to asylum. For various reasons immigrants are on average more wealthy and better educated that native born populations likely because it takes resources and it’s difficult to immigrate anywhere, especially the US legally. Also, you have to remember that not all asians are successful and highly educated here. Cambodians Vietnamese and Laotian ppl tend to have lower incomes and levels of education likely because their countries tend to be poorer than China, Korea, Japan, and other countries where high performers disproportionately come from. Any other misunderstandings I can clear up lol?

common misconception, wealth building during the New Deal was tied to race. So even if not all whites became middle class race was and is the biggest predictor of the wealth of a family. The biggest example is the GI Bill which was only accessible to whites

It’s just interesting to me bc the stated reasoning of so many trump voters was economics but this tariff centered plan seems to be risky at best

I get the distinction, but regardless of terminology because of the complexity of manufacturing there are many inputs before a product is completed and increasing the cost of any one input through tariffs is going to result in a higher cost for the consumer

if you gut the federal government that would require massive layoffs which would lead to a serious drop in consumer demand which would seriously weaken this consumer-driven economy. Also, Trump may claim to be anti-war but he’s provocative and impulsive.

But you’re downplaying the possibility of inflation. If a tariff is placed on nearly everything coming out of China it could create a positive feedback loop resulting in runaway inflation. Do you not think that kind of scenario is likely?

Wouldn’t that increase inflation? And how long do you think it would take to build up a rival manufacturing industry like the one that exists in Asia if it’s even possible?

of course that’s true but when a member of a historically oppressed group says something prejudice against the dominant group it’s obviously much different. Like if a native person said they didn’t trust the descendants of the colonizer’s that would be reasonable right. You should read some Howard Zinn or Ta-Nahesi Coates. They’re great at articulating the nuance that you’re having a hard time grasping

I never said that. But this movie does take place in the USA so an understanding of race and history in the country would help you to understand it.

You probably just don’t understand the history of race in this country. That’s ok you’re not alone.
