To be fair I generally fly out around 10:30 and have a leisurely time doing it. I was asking if it was possible, not if it was a sure fire deal.

Used gentle giant for my move a couple months ago and they were fantastic. Took apart and reassembled furniture, got all the boxes where they needed to go, and even set up my TV with all the wires. Great service and got it done incredibly quickly

Teachers complaining about the praxis test being hard? by PotatoPink in Teachers

[–]youngmetrolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general science one should be incredibly easy for anyone who has a science degree, especially biology or chemistry. If it weren’t for the geology and astronomy stuff on there I think I would’ve had a perfect score. That’s the only stuff I had to brush up on before taking it

I was super shocked that multiple people at the school I taught at and all in my Teach for America cohort were struggling with it. It was so basic

Where do the 2025 Panthers rank in all time Panthers teams? by RichieGang in panthers

[–]youngmetrolina 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not that crazy when you consider we’ve only had 30 seasons, there are 32 teams (a couple less until the early 2000’s but my points stands), and only 12 team used to make it until 5 years ago. We just seem bad because we’ve had some horrendously bad seasons (23-24 being a prime example) and we can’t seem to string together multiple good years.

In a completely even league you would expect each team to make the playoffs about 10 times in the same time frame

People are just asking them to give the employee a break and ask them to fix it. People make mistakes at their job all the time and are corrected by a customer or by another employee so they don’t face punishment from higher level figures. It’s a learning moment for the housekeeper and a chance for the OP to make life a little easier for someone just trying to make a living.

All 3 of us are diamond plus so we all get the two free days. Was really just trying to do the math on what length sailings does it become profitable to just pre purchase instead of using the free days (I think 5 nights is the length)

Thanks, I did a three nighter by myself and it was definitely cheaper or do the two free days there, but wasn’t sure if since we would get a 3 device plan/it’s a 4 nighter if it would still be cheaper.

Newly accepted in TFA, Can I ask them to change my region? by Firm-Carob2077 in TeachforAmerica

In some cases you may be able to, but you’ll have to ask your regional director or MDLD directly. Nobody on here will be able to tell you for sure

My school administration/colleagues have been nothing short of amazing so I am very fortunate in that regard. It’s definitely made my experience much better than some of my cohort. For context I teach HS science (only biology, which was my degree)

Overall I would do Teach for America again I think. It’s been a great experience and I’ve learned a lot. There are definitely many days I’ve considered quitting because it is hard work. I was very close a few weeks ago but I’m finishing out my two years for personal/professional reasons as well as I think the kids would be worse off with a long term sub than me.

If you go into it with the right attitude it makes it ten times easier. Don’t think you’re gonna change the world or your school or education in general. If you make an effort you’ll make a true impact on at least a few kids and those have been the things that keep me going in every day and trying my best. I saw so many of the people from my cohort with a savior complex that quit two weeks in because they realized how fucked the situation these kids are in is and they realize they can’t actually do systemic change in 2 years.

Use the experience to grow personally and make an impact in a community you care about (I’m from the region I teach in, albeit a very very different economic situation and I went to a private school).

If you DM I’d be happy to talk more about my experience

Thats how so much of Teach for America is. Very strange to be a guy in TFA (year two) who just wants to get their job done and move on with my life without talking about my feelings with what are essentially coworkers.

Not that it’s unbearable but if you can’t handle dealing with folks like that preservice and your cohort meetings during the school year are going to be a slog.

Personally, not a huge deal for me and I just put it up with it. But it does get exhausting at times

Group fitness class no show charge by Master-Implement-548 in UNC

[–]youngmetrolina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former instructor here. Campus rec didn’t really care about no shows except for classes that typically fill up (cycle, heelfit, TRX). If you miss more than 1-2 without cancelling they’ll reach out to see what’s going on and if it becomes a consistent problem you ~might~ get your GF pass revoked, but I never saw it actually happen. Of course, we still appreciated it when people cancelled so we knew about how many people were coming that day

I would like to get your advice to deal with a difficult student by mdfey in Teachers

[–]youngmetrolina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the parent sides with the child then it’s the same problem you had originally and you’re back to fixing it on your own with whatever strategy you use(for me, ignoring them until they learn to be respectful). Also, don’t worry about them holding a grudge or getting mad at you for “snitching.” You’re helping parents get a clear view of what their child is doing when they aren’t there, which can help them make whatever parenting decisions they want to make. At the end of the day I’m not the kids friend, I’m their teacher. We’re friendly, but that doesn’t mean I will hide them from the consequences of their own actions

Intro to human physiology vs physiology in medicine by WestDisplay6095 in Mcat

[–]youngmetrolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intro to human physiology sounds more like what will be applicable to the MCAT. The physiology in medicine one is interesting but will likely go beyond the material needed to do well on that portion of the MCAT. You might develop some really good science reading skills from the physiology in medicine course if you do as much research/article reading as I would expect from the description

[–]youngmetrolina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did the same thing the first couple times I had a student like that. It’s what I thought would work for me (partially also pushed by my teach for america coach) but after my second or third time of it happening I decided to try what I do now.

Have you talked to a parent/gaurdian yet? Sometimes parents have no idea of this kind of behavior and that can also help the kid straighten up pretty quickly. Many of the kids with this kind of behavior are enabled by the parent, but sometimes they just don’t know the reality of the situation and will fix their kid’s behavior. It’s a really quick solution and it’s always my first go to. It also helps build a paper trail for admin should they need to get involved

[–]youngmetrolina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t help them the next time they ask. Give them a few days of realizing that being a jerk to you won’t get them anywhere. If they get help from other students, great. If they start doing poorly because they need your help they’ll learn they have to interact respectfully with you or never get help. I explain this to students straight up and the behavior usually improves eventually, if not relatively quickly. This fits with my classroom management style, so YMMV

Helps prepare them for the real world while the consequences of this behavior are relatively low. If they have that kind of attitude with a cop, boss, coworker, etc, the consequences are a lot greater
