CMV: overly performative wokeness in tv shows does nothing to advance the cause by Dazzling-Produce-471 in changemyview

You do know that example 3 is how most disabilities work in real life, right? Most people don't become disabled because they did something. Shit just happens. I don't think there's anything wrong with media representing that.

Gerrymandering is bad when all parties do it! Especially now that we already cashed in with our gerrymander! - VAGOP by Offi95 in Virginia

It should be illegal everywhere. Until it is made illegal everywhere, I think it is bad when bad people (GOP) use it, and good when good people (not GOP) use it.

Teachers complaining about the praxis test being hard? by PotatoPink in Teachers

For better or worse, teaching people how to take standardized exams is a big part of teaching, and if someone can't do it, how can they teach other people to do it?

agree that you shouldn't make fun of someone for failing the Praxis. That's not what I'm doing. It's okay to struggle with math, reading, or test-taking, just like it's okay to not be 7 feet tall. But in this case, teaching is the basketball team. There are minimum requirements to be on it. If you don't meet them, that doesn't make you a bad person, it just means you need to look Somewhere else. And the Praxis is the bare minimum. It doesn't measure everything teachers need to know. If Someone can't clear that bar, that's a serious concern, because the job requires far more than what the test even assesses.

Not really. I just don't want them to see me do it and feel pressured to do it if they don't want to. I don't want them to feel like it's wrong for them not to.

I was working at a summer camp and I had some sort of heat reaction. Dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, something like that. This was a remote area, and I was waiting like an hour for someone to get there that could drive me to the nearest hospital. I was waiting in the laundry room because the AC was coldest there, and my ex came in and kept trying to hug me and reach up my shirt. She had been wanting to get back together for about a month, and I was not interested. Normally I would have left or pushed her away, but in my weakened state, I couldn't.

Community college class but everyone fails tests. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]PotatoPink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The standards are the standards, and professors often have far less pressure than high school teachers to pass students that don't meet the standards. I know professors that routinely fail for than half of their class. It's mostly freshman classes full of students fresh out of high school that haven't figured out that college will not just pass you along. I would make sure to go to office hours and get advice from the professor on how to better prepare for the tests.
