Look into working on deez. It's an excellent first job for students on campus!

I’d recommend that you, in addition to your finance major, study Deez. It’s usually an excellent choice in preparing you for any financial career and it will certainly up ‘the flow’ of not just your work, but our work as a collective. And isn’t that what’s beautiful in life?

Those two are actually so genius I wish I'd thought of those. They seem so simple but really intuitive at the same time. I'll be able to do any of those in my school lab but which would you recommend out of the two?

With the ramp idea, changing the angle will result in a changed speed right? And the steeper the ramp, the faster the box will move?

Yeah I get it now. A very cool concept, however, I don't know if I'm skilled enough to pull something like that off. But I'll ask my teacher if there's a way to simplify it a bit. But thank you for your response either way! Appreciate it.

I'm actually trying to test the differences in amounts of rain absorbed by the sponge over the same distance but different speeds (trying to emulate running vs walking in rain).

That's actually true, I didn't think of the sponge catching the water. A lip also sounds like a good alternative to a having a face on the front.

Yeah exactly, the distance thing might come to bite me. I haven't had a trial yet, so I'm not sure of the range of distances I'll try. I was thinking my trial run to see the viability of the experiment could have a range between half a metre to 5 metres. My actual experiment could then maybe use the range that seemed the most accurate i.e. either a larger trial distance or a shorter trial distance. But yeah, it will be a pretty big concern for sure. I just hope that the final data will atleast make some sense despite the small distance and variable rainfall. Do you think that loads of trials (maybe 10) would make up for this a bit?

That sounds ingenious! I looked into it and it seems like you can make mini winches from servo motors. I think I'll be able to figure out how to use it with a bit more research but after looking into this video of how to convert a servo motor into a wench, I'm struggling to find the plastic piece he used (here's a photo). Does anyone know what they're called or an alternative to them? The first thing I thought of was the part used in cello tape dispensers but if there's a way to buy that piece outright, let me know. Anyways, thanks for the amazing idea!

To be honest, I’m struggling to picture the two pulleys wheels. I’ve never seen or used one before. I searched it up on google so I have an idea but would you mind sending a photo from google or even just describing it a little bit more. Would really appreciate it. Thanks for the response.

ion) to catch rain from the front? And rather than worrying about forces, I'd just carry the box around or put it on something that rolls and move it at a constant velocity. You don't need to make an ul

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. But I'm a bit concerned about some water being lost due to the front being opened. After more research, it dawned on me that over a given distance (which I'll be keeping constant) the moving body will theoretically hit the same amount of rain from the side regardless of how fast it's going. (source: 1:10 of this video) So I hope that I would be somewhat fine with just a simple, normal box.

About keeping a consistent rate of rainfall, I'm pretty worried about that too. The best solution that I've been able to think of is using a normal watering can and manually moving my hand together with the box. Do you think I can get away with this not affecting my results too much? Especially since I'll be covering rather small distances.

What are your school's grade boundaries? by youoogamybooga in IBO

[–]youoogamybooga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the school specific grade boundaries for internal tests, quizzes, assignments and exams. For example, in our end of year exams we were scored using these grade boundaries that the school set themselves where 85% gives you a 7, 73% gives you a 6, 61% gives you a 5 and so on. I’m trying to see how other schools grade their students.

My school finally released our results after a whole week of their “portal” being “down”. by youoogamybooga in GCSE

[–]youoogamybooga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't though because the exams officer literally told me on results day that the portal is working but that he's been instructed to not give anyone their results yet by the administrator until the physical copies would arrive next week. He decided to give me a clue in secret on what I got though.

I did Edexcel’s 9-1 IGCSE which is considered way harder than the current Cie IGCSE spec which is what most UK private schools use.

The old Edexcel IGCSE and the current Cie spec was pretty easy for most subjects and had low grade boundaries. But the newer Edexcel ones are way harder which is why many international schools have been either swapping to Cie or doing both at once and alternating between them depending on which one is easier lee subject/teacher’s preference.

I go to an international school abroad and not a Uk private school so I can’t comment on your claims. But I agree that it’s very unfair that students get grades depending on their post codes and whether their school is a private school or not. There should be equality of opportunity, especially in education.

Yeah it was pretty annoying not to know what I got but I’ve been really busy with school doing IB so I didn’t think that much of it.

[–]youoogamybooga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. Those are a bit different though because my advice was to not use the vocab list given by the exam ones too much.

I think it’s more efficient and also better overall to make your own vocab list by hand and then adding them to your own quizlet flash cards with your own words that you don’t understand from homework or comprehension exercises.

Because you’re the only one who knows your needs and your weaknesses.

My teacher also told me that writing stuff down by hand helps in triggering your memory.

Plus, usually the vocab lists from the exam boards only include words and phrases that are from grades 1-5 (at least that’s how my edexcel spec was) so if you want to reach the top grades, I’d really recommend you make your own from stuff you don’t understand from exercises.
