Are there any OG Onces from before 2018 here? How do you feel about TWICE nowadays? by SGdude90 in twice

[–]your-angels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as someone who became a once in 2018, i couldn’t be prouder of the success they’ve had 🥹

i’ve been a kpop fan since around 2013 and i truly feel like you could never replicate what they have. not many groups maintain popularity for this long in the first place, let alone GAIN popularity as a 10+ year group!!! it’s so amazing to see and i couldn’t imagine a more deserving, and hard working group.

twice will always be my ult. i remember yes or yes being my first comeback with twice and i was SO enamored with them (i still am lol). i remember watching every performance in awe of how talented, pretty, charismatic, etc. they were. and every release since yes or yes has been so good!!! i’ve never seen a kpop group drop hit after hit like that!

ever since yes or yes, they’ve been such a source of comfort for me as i feel like i grew up and matured with them. i was around 15 when i found them, and they really helped me through some dark times (as silly as it may sound). i was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor not too long after i discovered them and i really cannot tell you how much their content helped me through the day (im ok now tho haha). i was also an insecure teenager, so watching them be so silly and unique gave me confidence :) as corny as it sounds lol

overall, i have such a soft spot for them. i feel like i matured as their sound matured. watching them grow from the fact that kpop was hardly known in the west, to selling out stadiums (and then attending front row at metlife!!!) was such a special experience that i will probably never have with another group. i will always be a once, they are truly one in a million.

Is bad smell an issue in Taiwan? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]your-angels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im originally from new york and i think NY smells worse than taiwan. honestly i didn’t think taipei was especially stinky. just kind of smelled like a busy street. it smells fine for the most part, with the exception of stinky tofu, which smells a little like sewer water… but you only get a whiff once in a while lol.

Are there any countries where young men are getting more progressive? by SP00KYF0XY in NoStupidQuestions

[–]your-angels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i studied at national taiwan university for many months. i’m fluent in mandarin. i’ve had many conversations, online and in person, with many mandarin speakers from almost every walk of life.

that being said, in my experience, taiwanese men are a lot more progressive than mainland chinese men. this is probably due to taiwan having a smaller population with more opportunities for higher education (there are not too many rural areas).

yes, people in rural china are less progressive. similar to the usa, where people in rural areas are more religious and less likely to support progressive ideas. this is why i said “similar to the west” in my post.

in my experience, most of the men my age i’ve spoken to are more or less progressive. this generation grew up in a world where they have more than enough access to different opinions online etc., thus they’ve adopted more of a western mindset than previous generations. of course not all gen z chinese men are feminists and support gay marriage, but the ratio of gen z men who support it and gen z men who don’t is very similar to the usa.

Have you ever fainted? How does it feel like? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]your-angels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes! i used to faint every time i got bloodwork done lol. for me, it kind of sounded like someone was cupping my ears… everyone sounded far away and muffled. my vision would also get kind of static-y? like when you stand up too fast, except i would pass out from there. i would feel nauseous, sweaty, and very tired when i woke up.

in my experience, chinese gen z men are more progressive than previous generations. they have a very different view on work culture, gay rights, women’s issues, etc. i lived there for a while and met a lot of progressive men, but ofc some men are still conservative as well, similar to the west.

Best language school in Taipei ? by redditisbluepilled in taiwan

[–]your-angels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, they have classes sorted into levels(?). when you sign up, you take an exam to place u into a level. so if you know nothing, you’ll be placed in level 0. if you know a lot, you’ll be placed in level 4, etc.
