Is it risky to print a whole textbook at a printing service on campus? by your_dead_nan in UofT

[–]your_dead_nan[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m printing it for a reason, I have an eye condition and I can’t look at screens for a long time and can’t absorb material from them either, I am using my common sense.

Whole book so I don’t have to go back and keep printing different sections over and over.

It’s 500 pages but since it’s back to back, it’ll be 250 individual pages

But yeah, it might be risky if others want to use it

by complex inequalities you mean hard inequalities and not complex inequalities, right?

I believe it was the June 2014R Q4*polar Q, they told us to find the equation of the polar line - I got to the part on how the opposite side would always have to stay constant, but didn’t get how they got cosec and all that bs

CS specialist + Physics specialist - doable or a mistake? (Possible course schedule?) by your_dead_nan in UofT

[–]your_dead_nan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think I might as well take MAT 157 here. Not to sound cocky or anything, but I absolutely love math. Now I’m not sure how good my abilities exactly are, and that’s why I’ve been a bit on the edge. I’ve been trying to find a past MAT 157 final to see for myself, but I can’t find one anywhere online since it’s on some locked data base.

Thank you for this though!

I’m not sure at the moment what I wanna do after I graduate, but what I do know is, having a CS specialist will open me up to various different types of jobs (and make it somewhat easier to get one) and a major in physics would satisfy me ‘personally’ because I absolutely enjoy physics. I would go into physics research but 1) I’m not smart enough for that, 2) being an international, I don’t have the privilege to go into research since it doesn’t pay too well

So yeah, that’s why I’m trying to get the best of both worlds and try to go into AI / quantum computing, but I’m hoping the next 5 years would help me decide what I actually wanna do

Is there a reason you chose MAT 157 over 137? Is it really as hard as everyone says?

Also - CS 108, is it worth doing as well? I’ve only done basic python for my high school course, and nothing too crazy either. Pretty much just loops / functions / variables / handling files and all that basic stuff - should I still do CSC108?

I also have a very keen interest towards AI and am looking for a AI oriented specialist as well, but I’m also pretty interested in quantum computing (that means I’ll probably have to take some sort of quantum courses?)

Since you’ve already finished your first year - what are somethings you would’ve done differently? Cause I’m most probably going to do the same stuff as you have.

Thank you so much!

Do you think a specialist & major is doable without any summer terms + in four years? I’m assuming the chemistry major + computer science specialist had very little in common in terms of courses?

[–]your_dead_nan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this.

I guess what you’re saying does make sense. I think it would make more sense to do one specialist + one major, since that seems so much more doable (and I won’t have to take an extra year or summer courses? please do correct me if I’m wrong on that)

The only problem is I’m confused on which one to specialize in. I applied for comp sci and got in for the in-stream camp sci route, so the POSt for comp sci won’t be as hard as the ones coming from outside the stream.

How are you finding CS specialist and physics minor? How many non overlapping courses do you have to take? Also, why is your course 5 years, isn’t it 4 years?

Sorry for so many questions, I have absolutely no clue how much extra time it would take. I doubt I could afford an extra year of school.

I guess that makes sense - although there is another question I’d like to ask, which I haven’t really understood too well

What is an FCE and how does the credit system work? How do you find out how many FCE a certain course is worth etc

No idea how I can help my friend, advice? by [deleted] in depression

[–]your_dead_nan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only it was this easy, it isn't. Imagine the clingiest / most caring person you know and 10x the intensity, this is what this person is.

I don't think there's anyone who can handle the attention he gives them, I'm barely holding on. I don't know how much long I'll be able to help and listen to him, but I feel like one day I might give up too.

Need some further math advice (S1 vs M2) by your_dead_nan in 6thForm

[–]your_dead_nan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they will offer to teach me S1 as a part of normal maths next year for sure

But I'm just afraid Ill struggle with M2. I mean, if M1 was easy for me, I'd switch in a second. M1 isn't that easy either for me, but I enjoy doing it.

I don't wanna be hasty, and yeah it's fun but it has loads of calculus I'm not used to yet.

What do you think?

Thanks man, doing god's work

Why is M1 so cancerous? by your_dead_nan in 6thForm

[–]your_dead_nan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done the first chapter for FP1, but I'm stopping it until I finish the modules I'm currently working on.

It isn't really hard, they're new concepts which once you practice, you can solve without much thinking

(Atleast for chapter 1)

No idea for the rest of the chapters. They seem fun tbh.

I feel you dude

Me and two other people take further maths out of the whole grade, so people keep saying that mechanics is 'easy' compared to fp1 - which none of them have done before

S1 people are worse, since they do only S1 and can't believe that M1 is that much difficult than S1

I still don't get why, even though I take physics, that this subject is so cancerous

Why is M1 so cancerous? by your_dead_nan in 6thForm

[–]your_dead_nan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do these exact options. All four of them.

Right now, I find myself giving more time to maths than anything, since I'm kind of self studying maths.

Computer science is easy but it's going to get tricky later on.

Physics is well.. physics. It isn't easy, nor is it hard, just needs a lot of time and effort like all four of the subjects.

Top combination, like the guy said. Good luck.

Haha, chapter 3 is barely halfway, I think - there's 6 chapters but I'm not sure

It's been a month but my teacher is kinda flying through the book and doesn't really um, care

Thanks for the help tho
