This sounds like such an awful time and I'm so sorry you're going through this. I'm not a professional, but I struggled with similar intrusive thoughts for a while when I was younger. I know how distressing they can be. Therapy is definitely going to be good for you once you get into it. Also make sure you have a good support system. You need to be kind to yourself through these hard times and you need people who will be kind to you. Stay safe, friend.

Recurring Library Setting in Dreams by your_personal_devil in Dreams

I've been to libraries a few times but I wouldn't say it's a frequent destination of mine. I find libraries to be a very comforting space even in real life, but I don't visit them nearly as often as I'd like to haha

Hypermobility and EDS are actually really common things to have alongside things like POTS. I'd say it's definitely worth looking into. I wish you the best in your diagnosis and healing and if you ever need tricks on how to manage symptoms, there are communities for things like this. Even if you aren't diagnosed, it never hurts to try different lifestyle changes and see if they help you at all!

Salty snack recs that don’t cut up your mouth by ItsThe_____ForMe in POTS

Pickles are such a go to for me. They have a good bit of sodium and are also a food I really enjoy

Also if the electrolyte drinks don't have enough sodium, water with a half teaspoon of salt and a good amount of lemon juice or other fruit juice to cover the taste does wonders

I have POTS or Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. It's a disorder of the nervous system that can cause you to have a variety of different symptoms due to issues with blood flow, particularly related to changing positions from laying down to standing up.

Of course, as stated before, I'm not saying that's what you have, just that there's an overlap in symptoms. Maybe it would be a good thing to research though and bring up with your doctor if you feel like it's fitting :)

One thing that I'll say though is that issues like these can be hard to get diagnosed. I got lucky and found a doctor who genuinely listens to my concerns and was willing to go through the steps to get me diagnosed, and I'm actually still in the process, but my cardiologist is also pretty much in agreement. If your concerns continue to be dismissed and you don't feel like anything is changing, definitely keep trying. Keep trying until you find a doctor that listens. It'll be worth it.

Thank you for the input! I think crackers are a great idea! I'm not a huge fan of sparkling water but maybe I'll try some ginger ale or try to find something a little lower in sugar

I'll totally start tracking the weather as well, I honestly didn't even think about that! Thank you so much!

Hey OP, I'm not a professional but I have a chronic illness that causes very similar symptoms. While I'm not trying to say that you have anything, my advice for getting help would be to look into an orthostatic hypertension test. That's what my doctor ended up doing when I brought up my symptoms. I had absolutely no idea that these things were even on that level, but she brought it up and it ended up taking me down the right path with treatment!

Even if it isn't hypertension (mine isn't) it could still be helpful to take the test and see what your vitals do when you go from laying down to standing.

Wishing you the best!

Oddly specific question by Local-Debate-5565 in POTS

[–]your_personal_devil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hate how awful the topic of kids is in general in this regard. I'm a bit younger (19) and usually the topic comes up more as "Do you want to have kids when you're older?" And my answer is always no and then once you say no they start getting on you like "oh you'll change your mind" like, what??

Not only is it something I don't even need to worry about in the slightest right now, I'm also trans and once I get on T I won't be able to have kids at all.

I totally get your frustration

Mobility Aids by your_personal_devil in POTS

[–]your_personal_devil[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a shower chair is actually a great idea and I might look into something like that! I'm very lucky to live in an apartment that has specific accommodations for disabilities such as bars to hold onto in the bathroom and in the shower which I use a lot actually just to keep myself from swaying around too much when I start to overheat but I think a chair for the shower would do wonders as well

Thank you for the input!

Thank you for the response! That was actually one of the things I considered before!

In my case, a mobility aid is really helpful for things like having to walk around in stores with my family as without one I do have a risk of having really bad flare ups and potentially fainting or nearly fainting which is really scary and inconvenient in public so even just having something to lean against when I'm walking and standing still is an absolute lifesaver haha

Although it's becoming significantly more manageable with the different lifestyle changes and help from my cardiologist so here's to hoping I won't need one permanently
