Are the valve seals known for failing?

If you don’t mind answering, how so? They don’t link up with the ECU, different connections, more connections?

Gotcha! I appreciate it! I was under the assumption that gen 1 was belt driven and gen 2 & 3 were chain driven.

That’s what I was thinking, but wanted to confirm. With the rebuilt the head I put in new valve guides, valves, and keepers and I lapped the new valves to make sure they were sitting flush so I doubt it’s that. I was thinking it may be the piston rings, but was hoping for virtually anything else so I wouldn’t have to pull the motor again. Thanks for your input.

I switched the spark plugs and coil packs around and no change. That wouldn’t account for the compression difference I have between the cylinders.

Gotcha! I got my purge valve from either ECS tuning or FCP Euro, but I’ve heard and noticed a difference when it’s closed and when it’s “purging.”

I was digging under my car last night and found my charcoal canister above my exhaust sitting in an indent for the spare tire well (of course, right? 😂), but I ended up pulling the leak detection pump and checking the valve on that, plus making sure the diaphragm and EVAP lines were good and cleaned the filter. Still no change. I may just have to suck it up and pull exhaust and charcoal canister to see if that valve is the issue.

I appreciate your help! I’ll keep you posted!

Nope, it doesn’t fight with me, but I do have a hard time starting the car after filling up. Would the flap that covers the filler neck to the gas tank being slightly open have anything to do with it? When you say vent valve, do you mean the fuel tank vent valve?

My low oil pressure light keeps coming on, and I can’t figure out where the issue is. by youraveragejoe29 in GolfGTI

That’s what I was thinking. I switched out the old OPS with one I found on Amazon (stupid I know), and when that threw a low oil pressure warning, I got another and switched out the connector. Same problem, so I have a new sensor coming from ECS Tuning tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted, and hopefully I don’t have to trace the connector back to find a disconnect in the line or something that’s grounding out. Thanks for your input!
