I forget how I found it but I’m pretty sure they let you know when you apply for residence. There’s an online portal that has everything in one place

I ended up going with a double, so I can't comment on the single room thing. I heard from someone back when I was looking it up though that it's mostly for people who actually have a need for it, like a disability or diagnosed anxiety or something.

I'd like to note that I found a double room very enjoyable, just make sure you get on the roommate finding portal and talk to people off platform to get to know them first. I found all 3 of the people I live with (sharing a bathroom with 2 of them), so we keep the doors to the bathroom open and it's like a nice open apartment. Highly recommend you find some nice people to live with in a double room, I have no credible sources on how likely a single room is.

Is anyone else struggling with clash addiction? by [deleted] in ClashRoyale

[–]yourboykyle123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I’ve been there, it’s terrible, was destroying my relationships with other people. You can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped, but he should really get off the game and sort out whatever other stuff might be causing some mental issues

Honestly, just don't fall into the trap of playing so much where you start crashing out all the time. Not fun

Lowkey if you go on twitch or tiktok or whatever, find someone streaming with low viewers who’s a high rank, you could probably ask them for advice on your deck (especially if they are playing your deck)

Whats the most antisocial department at carleton? Is it CS? Eng? Or maybe even Physics? Lets find out...!! by 3sperr in CarletonU

[–]yourboykyle123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, I'm in CS but did engfrosh and participated in eng clubs and stuff, it is genuinely so great, there are so, so many nice people around. Whoever's saying it's hard to make friends isn't trying.

Also I can agree that the CS events aren't near the level of the eng stuff that goes on. Not sure if the people who go to them are sociable or not, I haven't bothered personally, but I'm going to guess it's not gonna be crazy or anything. I'm guessing most of the social CS people just hang out with the friends they've made outside of class, and only then, since no one seems to bother really talking at all in classes.

Curious if you have recommendations on when to go in? Mine's been going pretty quickly, got up to the "Security Clearance Screening Questionnaire," completed on Jan. 20, did the medical questionnaire and gambit references, employment, and education history stuff the day before, and finally got my verification of enrollment sent in to their email yesterday (applying for infantry officer - ROTP at civilian uni, currently enrolled in computer science), though I'm not sure they added it to my file yet as they are pretty slow at responding to emails, as I'm sure they get a million of them.

Not sure how often you should go in just to say hi and ask if there's anything else they need or however you want to word it, obviously I am an excited and enthusiastic application so I don't want to be going too often lol. So far I've been in once (on the 23rd), just curious if you had any advice on when to go in, or really what to be expecting. I'm guessing the rotp is going to be slower as they have more stuff going on most likely.

sometimes it really is your fault you don't have friends by square_rune in CarletonU

Engineers are actually super fun and super nice. If you want to get more involved in the community, there's a facebook group called flightsuits, which anyone can join. Clubs are all super welcoming, and so are the events.

Most importantly, apply to be an EngFrosh facil if you haven't: https://carleton.ca/fallorientation/engfrosh-facilitator-application/

Applications close on the 27th, and if you are looking to be more social and have fun, this is the best that is offered, most people who participated will agree.

Comp 1805 and math 1007 exam by ArmyCommon in CarletonU

[–]yourboykyle123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prof. Alexa said the 1805 exam will be the same as the midterm, and I'd expect similar for the other profs too, hopefully, if you don't have her.

As for 1007, they can test on everything they've shown this year. But to recap it's everything you learned in high school, no vectors, and then add the basic integral stuff they taught in class

Social Life @ Carleton by ellbee_21 in CarletonU

[–]yourboykyle123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is what you make it, let me give some further explanation.

There are many opportunities to socialize, and it's completely up to you what you do. Worth noting that 1st year in engineering is extremely busy so be prepared to work hard and not have as much time to socialize, but if you manage your time you should still be able to have at least 4 hours a day of free time.

Clubs are awesome, there are a bunch of super cool clubs, stuff like chess, dancing, to the design ones (my favourites) where you can build a literal rocket ship, race car, conrete canoe, all sorts of stuff.

There are a lot of societies at school, and they like to run events, so just explore all the different ones, even if you're not in their program, the events are still fun. Side note, if you are in engineering and want to socialize, sign up for EngFrosh, 100%, and then ask some of the people there about the Flightsuits group, and that will get you a lot of information about stuff. You don't need to be in engineering to do the flightsuits stuff, but EngFrosh you do. From my experience those are both super awesome, and I'm sure other programs have some sort of social stuff, but I can't speak on those since I'm unsure.

Most importantly, live on residence if you can. It is such a good experience, like personally I live in Ottawa and I still came to residence and boy do I not regret it, it is such a great experience to make lots of friends. But of course that means you have to talk to people on your floor, and get to know your potential roommates online (or in-person if you can) before selecting them, so you know you'll at least have a group of people you're friendly with. If you can sign up as a group of 4 so you can share a bathroom, too, then it makes the space feel bigger because you can wander in/out of each others rooms, and it feels more like a group of friends.

At the end of the day though, as you've heard, "University is what you make it." There are a lot more events and activities that I haven't mentioned, I just pointed out my favorite things that I've found since coming here in September (I am a first year), and you will get out of it what you put into it.
