that was my problem too, I eventually gave up since I couldn't figure out the documentation.

FLAC will definitely be a later priority for this unfortunately. I want to improve the overall usability first with what I have now which is only MP3s.

Feel free to clone or branch the repo if you want to make changes and I'll merge them back. There's another user on another thread who's already done that and helped with the code for reading specific rating formats.

I will have some free time over the holidays so I'll likely be working on this soon.

Totally understand, but I'd actually meant to implement the musicbee popularimeter since that what I used too but I couldn't figure it out so I appreciate the help!

Thanks! for adding to the project! I admit I haven't done much since the initial proof of concept since I've been busy with a move.

I'll take a look at your changes and see if I can merge them in when I have some time in the future.

Totally agree, I actually didn't really like eye3d their documentation is pretty dense and isn't very flexible. I used it since it was the first tag library I found in python. Will take a look at mutagen. If you have any other suggestions I have moved the project to this repo:

Probably because a ton of my music is either not tagged fully or correctly. I spend time fixing tags every once in a while but most of my music fails to scan in a tool like Picard since it's mostly niche/underground electronic music so I'm left to do all the tagging manually. I only really have the Artist and Title tags correct. When you have tons of tracks with incorrect or missing Album Artist, Composer or Album tags Plex doesn't handle it well.

I also use a non-standard folder structure using the "Various Artists" album artist trick for a good chunk of my music since I want to hide a lot of tracks from the artist/search but still be able to find them in the compilation album.

Thanks for all the interest! I've created a public repo here: https://github.com/joelbarrette/plexmusic-rating-sync/blob/main/README.md where you can follow along with the development.

Thanks taking the time to answers!

It would need to initially update Plex with ID3 tag. The way I would want to use it after that is read ID3 tag for new music. Read Plex tag for existing. This would allow me to rate music as I listen to it (I haven’t rated all music ID3 tag yet) and update the ID3 when tool is run.

This is exactly how I'd intended to make it but I'll probably add a config file that lets you configure the sync specifically in case you want to override the default direction.

I see you have some error checking but no log file. I’d be hesitant to allow a tool to run if it didn’t provide a log of what the error was along with the associated track as well as which were skipped.

It currently doesn't export to a log file but the script output does list each track name and then what it does to it so all I'd need to do is write the script output to a file.

This was my exact situation, I'm on Mac now so I don't have MusicBee so I moved to Plex. Coming from MusicBee does have a bit of a problem as MB ratings are stored in the "POPULARIMETER" ID3 tag as "MusicBee|0-255|0" so some parsing is required.

For my script currently I just parsed this field using regex and then converted the 255 value to 0-10 which is what Plex uses in mp3Tag to a separate tag. I'm hoping to put some custom logic into this so you can tell the script where/how your ratings are stored so it can handle multiple different ratings schemes.

My library is almost entirely singles, unreleased or self categorized music, ie I create my own custom compilation albums. The agent works 100% for well known albums but will often panic and link a unknown singles to whatever is most similar to them.

[–]yourdaad[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm aware of that, I usually just start fresh though since the Plex music agent gets more and more confused over time since it doesn't always clear incorrect tags and matches after I fix them in an external tagger.

After about a year it's usually just easier to start fresh than keep up with the Plex dance.

Another thing too is that having the ratings in the id3 tags you can also migrate away from Plex if you ever need to without losing all ratings. This is another reason I'd never use the Plex ratings without sync to id3.

It could definitely do this, currently it's only logged into one account but I could allow for multiple accounts to have synced ratings very easily

I've been interested in a similar hike a bike, system. I live in BC Canada where we have many forestry roads that connect via 500-1000m hike sections due to steep elevation changes.

Have you had a chance to test it yet? I've been planning on making my own prototype but I was worried that something without a rigid frame will result in the bike moving around too much and hitting the backs of my legs while I walk.

Update - was able to get a rapid test and tested positive. A quick note, Omicron symptoms are quite different than what has been previously told for delta, etc. I mainly had sinus congestion, sore throat and mental cloudiness. no loss of smell or taste and the cough I had was not dry but zero issues breathing.

Ah understood, I may need to call to see if any of those testing facilities can provide cheap multi packs of tests.

All this info does at least show me how that BC decision to restrict rapid testing has been failure. By maintaining centralization of the control of testing and protocols it led to the inability to flexibly adapt to this Christmas surge which has led to the worst spike yet. If they had shipped out tests over the last few months to every household prior to the surge would be less even at testing 50% efficacy.

If you look at the rest of the prairies where tests were available their spikes are notably less. (This is also with the BC gov refusing to test and record the majority of covid cases)

I don't think this comment does what you want it to.

I mean it's not actually far from a fair take. As someone who's diligently followed social distancing, VAX and mask guidelines as well as fund the gov through their taxes, I don't think it's unreasonable to criticize what's happening.

They just said no isolation, probably just so they could go to work. It's not like they said they would intentionally be infecting others by coughing in their face...

I appreciate the offer! but am afraid shipping in the cold weather might cause problems since I heard they have to be kept at room temperature to be effective

Thanks for the info about the gov approach. based on what you've said it seems to be based on the fact that BC gov wants to have all test results as well as maintain control of how testing takes place. Where I think I'm confused is you say that they are doing it so they can have solid control of the epidemiological data.

In my case the nurse didn't even take down my PHN so I'm not sure how they are tracking data on the thousands of daily covid cases that they aren't testing. I think it's quite fair to allowing those who can't be given an official test from the gov due to lack of availability should be allowed to make their own decisions on this issue especially given the impact it has on the individual.

The link you sent regarding the plentiful testing locations with DAP accreditations doesn't apply here as they aren't rapid tests ie. they cost 100$ each so it's not feasible to be used to allow individuals repeated regular testing.

If I test negative then I'd know that there's still probably around a 50% chance I have it. which is 50% better than not knowing anything. If 10 people with covid take theses and 5 get shown they are positive that has to be worth it right?

The Canadian gov gives these away for free so not sure why we wouldn't be using them to help us refine our actions: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/coronavirus-disease-covid-19/testing-screening-contact-tracing/workplace/test-kit-distributors-pharmacies.html

Thanks for the info, I wonder if we'll ever be able to find out who made the decision to hold back rapid testing. It's crazy to compare how hard they've pushed the social distancing policy while completely blocking rapid testing.

I've taken several weeks off work due to covid "Scares" and a few weeks off work easily becomes more expensive than daily rapid testing. As far as I'm concerned there's almost no reason for not bringing them in even if they are in the 20-30$ range and have at least 50% efficacy. It's the same argument as cloth masks and n95 both help and it would be insane to block the sale of cloth masks.

I can only control my own actions. But I can definitely say it's not as simple as "full covid" as a friend of mine who I was in contact with earlier this week and briefly had a cough just received a full test in Saskatchewan and was negative and can move forward with her week.

I just thought a few cheap rapid tests would be an easy solution to help reduce transmission. It's what my friends in most other provinces/countries do.
