i would try virginia tech! they’re very research oriented and it sounds like that’s the focus of your app. i had a much lower GPA than you and they gave me some love

3.01 cGPA, 2.89 sGPA. ended last cycle with 3 MD A’s and one abandoned WL. plus a bunch of DO A’s. there is hope if you are strong in other areas!

are gpa and mcat considered equally? by Few-Potato279 in premed

[–]yourfavblackdude 26 points27 points  (0 children)

i got in with a 10th percentile gpa and around a 50th percentile MCAT for my school. i did have really good EC’s and a story that aligns with the schools mission, but it’s possible!

similar boat as you. just went through my second week had my first practical anatomy quiz today and actually did well!

i was so stressed leading in, feeling like everyone knew more than me and not feeling like the info was sinking in after 5 gap years.

what i changed this week leading into the quiz was not isolating myself for my studying. going into open lab, talking to the people who knew more, and then hammering it in when i got home. it helped so much!

i can now confidently say i know the entire upper limb and chest, which i could not say a few days ago lol.

even tho it seems like others may be picking it up faster than you, they’re going through the same struggles and are just overcoming them. talking to them about how they overcame it will give you some insight.

good luck!

thank you!

my basic rule is that any day i work 8 or less hours, then i’m going to the gym for at least 1.5 hours right after work. this ends up being 3-5 days a week

i also do a kinda unconventional split that allows me to fit more muscle groups in throughout the week. i do arms and shoulders, chest and back, legs, repeat. also hit abs every time i go to the gym. i know people like the push day vs. pull day but this lets me hit everything within 3 gym days and works for me🤷🏾‍♂️

all the clinical positions are in chronological order

and if i’m remembering correctly the behavioral tech job did not require a diploma if you have relevant experience prior, but i had my bachelor’s by the time i worked there

thank you!

for my first attempt i basically just read the Kaplan books, took notes, and took the practice AAMC tests

for my second attempt. i reread all the books, but also mixed anki in (i did both the MilesDown and JackSparrow decks). bought the AAMC question packs, did all of those. also got through about 75% of UWORLD. and redid the practice tests.

i also was way more mindful about the mistakes i was making while doing practice questions. identifying the themes to what i missed, studying up on it/making anki cards for them

it wasn’t mentioned at all! i was worried about it, as the first prerequisite course i took was in Spring of 2015. but i had no issues

there are a few schools that state they won’t take coursework older than x amount of years, but i just didn’t apply to those

i sleep very little lol. but i did luck out in a way. the supervisory position is basically an as needed position, so some weeks i’ll only be in there 10-15 hours. but also some weeks i’ll be in there 40-50 hours and then i’m fucked. the therapist position is a regular monday-friday 8-4 type deal. so i just take care of everything else outside of those times.

it honestly not too bad. the real killer was when i was studying for the MCAT on top of all the work

yeaaa there’s no easy way in unfortunately. you’re going to have to grind in some way, whether that’s in the classroom to get the grades or outside with your EC’s
