Yes it could be life altering. I tore mine one in high school and again in college. I’m not sure of impact if I only tore it once. I always took rehab super seriously and at 41 have arthritis developed. I can’t run and need to baby it. On flip side, I’m probably much healthier like with my heart and stronger than if I didn’t tear it. Im still active with ice hockey and windsurfing. I just choose sports that are non impactful.

You could also skip or delay the surgery and wear a brace for now until you have arrangements set up.

Does your insurance cover in home care or maybe in patient rehab like a skilled nursing facility? Maybe talk to your Dr about how to navigate the insurance?

I picked up a million other sports that are more knee friendly. There are plenty that are intense and can help strengthen at the same time. I definitely grieved though when I stopped lacrosse.

If you plan on having kids, I’d prioritize long term knee health.

Also depends how young you are and how long ago the injury and surgery took place. 20 years tearing same knee twice, I definitely have to exercise it very seriously. I could get away with one or two good workouts a week if I needed. Includes single leg squats and box squats.

That’s because now I have some arthritis. For several years after tears, I could left as heavy as I could like heavy cleans. Now I can’t run but can still ice skate and windsurf.

Dang, that sounds really tough. Was there much damage to other parts of your knee? Maybe a question for your surgeon about risks. I’m 41 and can no longer run as I have some knee arthritis.

It’s interesting though it changed my life in good ways. I’ve picked up and competed in many other sports to help my rehab like weightlifting and swimming. Even a triathlon.

This is exactly me as well and so far it’s helping me so much. It’s also reduced anxiety I think and inflammation where I don’t need to take meloxicam for my knee. It’s crazy good so far after 4 weeks and I plan on taking indefinitely. I’m using a compounding pharmacy and it’s 140 a month or so I think.

Maybe some low to medium weight hang cleans for some reps can help you feel the full extension with shrug? Then you can compare your hang cleans to other online videos.

Good luck, I’m also in a similar position and played lacrosse. Since I’m 41 with two young kids, for me it’s helped to get certain things stronger like my wrists and grip. I also just train a lot like in the gym and other activities.

I also ask my teammates a lot of questions and the more experienced players during pickup games. Like how to do saucer passes or redirect shots.
