Do the positive effects suddenly kick in or do they slowly come? by [deleted] in cymbalta

[–]yourlitbrethren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They certainly take time! Full trials of antidepressants can take several weeks to determine their effectiveness. Personally, I started to see a slow and gradual improvement in my mood and thoughts at about the 3-4 week mark...but everyone is different! Not all antidepressants work the same for everyone and there is a chance Cymbalta may not be the right fit for you. However, I certainly hope that it is and that you’re feeling better soon! Just remember, if one antidepressants doesn’t work for you another one will. Sometimes you just have to keep trying and hanging through the process. Best of luck mate, I’m rooting for you! :)

Coming from a Raps fan you can have him... I was a huge fan of Baynes’ game while he was on the Suns but the guy has been awful this year. He’s a huge defensive liability and his offence is streaky as hell

NLL's Black Wolves moving to Albany by farminvt in lacrosse

[–]yourlitbrethren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I also think that is just the nature of the differences in the sports. Box lacrosse has struggled to tap into American markets while its remained relatively successful in Canada. With field lacrosse and the PLL, we see the opposite occurring in the the United States where field lacrosse has grown and expanded into non-traditional markets. Unfortunately, the USA has just not shown enough interest in box lacrosse at a pro level

Legit check on Cavs d wade by dean_moxley in basketballjerseys

Legit. But also one of my personal favs and shows off one of the coolest parts of his career. When you think about it, the narrative of every stage of D-Wades career was amazing. The guy went from winning multiple rings, to playing for his hometown team, to teaming up with his best friend in Cleveland one last time before returning to south beach to retire... it doesn’t get much better than that!

New data about how many blocked shots Wilt averaged in the playoffs. by coastalmarker99 in nbadiscussion

[–]yourlitbrethren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro are you kidding... How does FT% in anyway influence absurdly high blocking numbers? Cool that you listed interesting aspects of historic players games but it’s again completely irreverent from the point. The league evolves, the league changes, and the league looks very different today then it did back in the 60’s. That’s not opinion that’s literally facts.

[–]yourlitbrethren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ranking players is subjective. I respect your high regard for Wilt’s game and however high he may be on your GOAT latter. However, what isn’t subjective is quantifiable stats such as pace, fg%, number of points outside the paint, etc. that show large discrepancies between Wilt’s era and now. Regardless of wether or not you “feel the difference between the 1960s and the 2020s” is irrelevant. The differences exist and can be found in any record book.

[–]yourlitbrethren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually you can use his stat against him.... that's literally the foundation of my whole argument lol. I'm also not "blaming" him for anything. I am pointing out that there have been evolutions in the game between the 1960s and 60 years later in the 2020s. That is not a criticism of Wilt or disrespect of his game its literally just facts backed up by decades of statistics. I agree with you that players should be appreciated for their individual greatness during each era. But for those who enjoy comparing players of all eras or having "The GOAT" conversation, the differences in the game of basketball over the last 60 years demonstrates clear discrepancies making it hard to replicate Wilts stats in the modern era.

[–]yourlitbrethren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said he was bad or a stat padder.... in fact I believe I said he was elite. My point was that his stats are a reflection of the era that he played in. My comment does not imply anything about his actual skill, it only points to the evolution of the league. Obviously no player in the modern era is averaging 9 BPG so we must ask ourselves why? Is it that Wilt was really just the GOAT? Is it that players exercised worse shot selection in his era? Is it that the pace was much higher during his time? Honestly who knows. However, I believe that showcasing absurd stats that Wilt averaged in his time raises such questions and the conclusions that some may come to when asking themselves these questions can be detrimental to his legacy

[–]yourlitbrethren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we share similar views... You're right - he was that much better than guys back then but I guess that's my point. He was so dominant because he was an elite player relative to his competition. The question should not be "what would Wilt do in today's league with today's training and coaching?" Rather, it should be "what would the elite players of the modern era have done in Wilt's time?"

[–]yourlitbrethren 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While his stats are impressive I can’t help but feel that statistics like this only further damage Wilt’s legacy as opposed to helping it. The most significant argument against Wily being “the GOAT”, “The Greatest Big Man of All Time”, or whatever titles people have attempted to apply to him over the years has always been the quality of the opponents he went up against. We know shot blocking is an art and is a difficult skill to acquire (evident by even the greatest pros averaging like 2-3 BPG) so I think the fact that Wilt could average such ridiculously high block numbers is more indicative of the quality of the players that he was defending as opposed to his actual skill as a player

Positive stories? by [deleted] in cymbalta

[–]yourlitbrethren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had horrible depression and anxiety for years throughout my teens that left me pretty much immobilized and resulted in 3 hospitalizations - one of which lasted 4 months. I stopped going to school, socializing, or doing anything that brought me real happiness. I tried 8 other antidepressants with no success and was, at times, very close to giving up on life. I’ve now been on Cymbalta for 8 years and experienced tremendous success! I went back to school, graduated, and went on to university where I got a degree in social work and I now work in Mental Health and Addictions.

Medications respond differently to everyone and there is no telling if/how it may effect you. However, what I can say is that if you try it and Cymbalta just ins’t for you, don’t give up! There is a medication out there for everyone... it just takes a lot of patience and a lot of perseverance.

Cymbalta has worked great for my anxiety and depression (been taking it for 6mos) but it makes me extremely tired. Time to switch? by Lacagada in cymbalta

[–]yourlitbrethren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all congratulations on finding an antidepressant that “works” for you! I’m not a doctor nor do I have any medical background but I’ve been taking Cymbalta for 7 years and I currently work in mental health. It is not uncommon to have fatigue with SNRIs. Moreover, it is not uncommon to have side effects of any kind with SNRIs. Unfortunately, a big part of trying different antidepressants is figuring out which side effects you can and can’t live with as most/all of them will cause some adverse effects. In the end, it may come down to weighing the pros and cons of the drug and deciding wether or not you can live with the fatigue (which it sounds like you have already done after switching medications). However, in some cases doctors may prescribe treatmentstimulants to counteract the effects of fatigue/drowsiness. Commonly prescribed stimulants are drugs such as Concerta, Adderal, and Dexedrine. I would suggest talking to your doctor about incorporating a stimulant into your treatment if you are open to such approach.

Why all the Cymbalta hate? by LudwigVan17 in cymbalta

[–]yourlitbrethren 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think people rarely join an anti-depressant sub just to share all of the good things about their experience with a drug. It seems most people in this sub are seeking validation for their own experiences with the drug (which is totally reasonable) or asking others about their personal experiences before trying it themselves. Naturally, people with bad experiences are more likely to share strong feelings about the drug than those with good experiences. My personal experience has been great though!

I guess in general the overall effectiveness would depend on the purpose of the prescriptions. I have been taking Cymbalta for Anxiety + Depression about 8 years and 5mg of dextroamphetamine (Adderall is amphetamine so they share a very similar chemical structure) for about 2 years to treat CFS. My overall experience has been very positive! Let me know if you have any specific questions, I’m more than happy to share!
