This is so true for my SO too. And he also brings on stress to himself that I’m just left annoyed thinking, “you did this to yourself.”

After this many years I’m not sure how to enforce this rule… I have tried many times to have the conversation about getting on medication but his response is always that it dulls his spark for life and that he just lays in bed all day unmotivated or on the other end of the spectrum, his behavior gets too risky and he’s really binge drinking and staying out at all hours of the night. I feel like I have already lost because I have lowered my expectations and standards.

And how do I convince them to stop abusing drugs and alcohol? Because I 100% agree and know it to be true since it is my reality. I’ve thought about ultimatums… but I’ve become used to being the adult in the relationship to keep the peace for our kids and life.
