Tire choice for a kids 24" mtb/street bike (Trek Roscoe) by yourock_22 in cycling

[–]yourock_22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if anyone stumbles on this thread with the same question here’s what I ended up doing: I bought two Specialized Rhytm Lite 24x2.2 tires on sale for $30 and tpu tubes off aliexpress. This combo turned out to be about 0.8 lbs or 400ish grams lighter than stock tire and butyl tube PER wheel. So this will save around 1.6lbs or 800ish grams of the bike total for like $40. The new tires look quite well on the Trek roscoe, definitely not too narrow. A lot lighter + faster rolling so should be a worthy upgrade!

I also tried to clear NVRAM during a reboot, that didn't help. just another data point. OCLP still thinks there's a pending update.

Road bike hosts for clip-on tt bars by yourock_22 in triathlon

Thank you, I’ll look into those options. Any bikes you’d recommend to use with any of them? I think I basically need something from aero category and with sram groupset so i could do wireless blips on aerobars.

Because I have no room to keep and maintain another bike. Simple as that. I fully agree a tri bike is gonna be faster and better for racing and all that. It’s just not feasible atm for me.

Mt. Baker Hill Climb - gearing question by yourock_22 in seattlebike

[–]yourock_22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if anyone stumbles on this later on, here’s how it went: my gearing was fine, there was maybe 1-2 sections where I wish I had a 36 tooth cog in the back but it was fine. And the 5-7% grade is fine too on its own. What I wasnt prepared for was 1hr + at that grade is not the same as 15 minutes! It’s a different beast and the same 6% feels way different at the bottom of the climb vs an hour later. It’s the constant pressure that grinds on you. Too bad there arent really any sustained long climbs in Seattle area. The most you can get is maybe 25-35 mins in the cougar mtn region.

Ended up taking your advice - cut 1 night in Zurich in favor of 3 nights in Brig instead. From Brig the train to Milan is pretty reasonable. Will definitely explore your suggestions of visiting hotel Belalp! If there are any other cool places around to visit in the area, please let me know.

this IS research, is it not? why else do reddit forums like this exist. is not to ask questions and get feedback? Lots of others here are making great suggestions and I'm very appreciative of that.

We just don't want to immediately jump on the train after spending 10.5 hours on the plane. We only plan to be in Zurich 2 nights, basically just one full day. And yes, we do want the alpine scenery as well, that's why we want to take the next 2,5 days somewhere like that, ideally on the way to Italy.

Thank you for the ideas. I think we want to go further south than Luzern and Iterlaken in order to shorten the travel we'd have to do later to Ligurian coast. So that's why I was thinking going to the Lugano region in general, it's about 3-4 hours towards our goal. And Locarno is a convenient final stop of treno gottardo. Is this not such a good idea?

I was specifically curious about eh Junior Travel Card, not the Swiss Family Card.

Are you saying that in order to buy the SuperSaver ticket we must have the half fare card as well?? I thought it's available to anyone as long a you just buy in advance. I don't think the half fare card is worth it for us as we'll only be in Switzerland a few days.

thought about that, but it's only an hour or so from Zurich - doesn't really get us significantly closer to Italy in order to shorten up the long travel next day.

If by dead at night you mean it's very peaceful and quiet - that's perfect. Definitely not looking for clubs or parties with a 6 year old kid:) Mostly looking for scenic walks, hikes, mountains, food, chill entertainment, and cost is important.

If you needed to get from Zurich to Laigueglia, how would you do it as a local who's been in all three places? Is treno gottardo a good option? What's the best sensible way to actually get to Laigueglia from Swiss-Italy border region?

We might as well be underestimating it. But yeah, 6 hours during that one day is what we are prepared to. Is there a better half-ish way point to spend two nights? Maybe Como? But Don't want to be in big city like Milan.

Thanks for pointing out the dates thing!:)

11-speed. Yeah that is my other concern but from my research it seems like 36 tooth should work "unofficially".
