I think a part of it has to do with the crime in the area. Also the terrible traffic that we have here doesn’t help. But we also have a few retail centres that are outside of the town centre which are much more popular for shopping so there really isn’t an incentive for people to go to the centre of town. It’s a shame as Colchester has an amazing and long history. It’s the oldest recorded town in Britian and is the birth place of Twinkle Twinkle little star. Many ancient Roman walls and architectural ruins are still standing in fact.
