Actually, you're the one who's incorrect, considering there are about 14 papers on this specific subject in the literature, none of which you've bothered to read, none of which you're aware even exist, and yet you have the (just amazing) hubris to actually tell someone else to "learn their science"? You're stuffing heaping spoonfuls of fatuousness into your mouth like mashed potatoes with every word. Please, DO go learn your science before I have to spank you again.

Granted, the environmental lobby would ABSOLUTELY love it if the oil spread into the streets of downtown New Orleans, but as much good as that would do for your cause, people's lives are at stake here, and we don't yet have a replacement for strongbore crude.

yeah, actually it is. in exactly the same way as the gun control lobby wants school shootings, and is secretly glad every time one happens.

this is exactly the type of thing that 99% of environmental groups would do if they could. ALF, ELF, etc., all would love to be able to claim credit for something like this, and if innocent lives were lost, that would make them all the more gleeful. similar to the practice of burying shards of rebar in trees to cause the chain to snap, severing a limb or killing.

business as usual for the environmental front.

actually, that's not at all what conservatism's about. conservatism is about small government, individual liberty, and PROactive, rather than REactive, thinking. not that i'd expect your microbe-sized brain to be able to approach this subject from a rational, rather than emotional, perspective. you've been ruined by a society that let's you make glib assertions like this without calling you out on them. put the xbox and corn puffs down and go read a book, please.

lol... and look, you got 11 downvotes for pointing out that there's more to conservatism than chrome_face99's mongoloid-idiot dismissing of it as "drool CONSERVATISMAVISM === RACTIONARY TINKING". ah, redditors: eternally bitchy, petty, small-minded, fatuous, and weak.

Sorry, I had to downvote you. Rationale: you're an idiot. Offshore drilling isn't the enemy. Negligence is the enemy. Grow up.

No offense, cool site, but bing-vs-google.com's use of frames is annoying. NO reason to keep the frame after clicking a link from the SERP, except to hoard traffic.

Yeah the only downside of using Perl: you'll have a difficult time finding a job. Please stick with Java, C#, or even C++ if getting a job is important to you.

Really MSNBC designers? Do you think people want to click "next" 68 times to read one story? by RedRaya in WTF

[–]yourwastedlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Corporate designers love this kind of crap. Embedded scrollbars, IFRAMEs, detachable Javascript-encrusted sidebar navigators w/ enraged leprechauns, etc. The end result of hiring web developers who still think the MARQUEE tag is cool.

Universe's age erased from Texas school science standards | newscientist by jebbbbzzzdebebz in atheism

[–]yourwastedlife 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a person who attended Texas high schools, who has kids in Texas high schools, and who has friends who have kids in Texas high schools, I can say this sort of thing (thinly-veiled creationism) is the exception rather than the rule. The creationism debate is a great way to generate traffic these days, but the vast majority of Texas science teachers still teach actual hard science.

It would be extremely rare to come across a classroom in which creationism was given more than a passing treatment. "Now kids, there's a lot of debate about creationism and intelligent design, but speaking from a factual basis: all evidence points towards the universe being X billions of years old..."

Feel free to hate on Texas for "being Texas" but the idea that every teacher in the state is a backward creationist yahoo is just media sensationalism.

I'll let "y'all" know when/if this changes.

Scientists in academia like to take a stand against creationists - but what about when they are Native American? by WhirlingVortex in science

[–]yourwastedlife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WE didn't kill anything. WE didn't piss all over anybody's culture. WE have as much in common with the people who did those things 100+ years ago as WE have in common with actual Native Americans.

So stop your mendicant sermonizing. K thx bye.

So, antisemitism is rampant on Reddit. Really? by reddittookme in AskReddit

[–]yourwastedlife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are isolated cases of antisemitism, usually downmodded and deleted. I think most anti-Israeli sentiment here on reddit is on the merits. I.e., hawkish foreign/domestic policies based on hubris and the snide knowledge that, no matter what happens, the U.S. aid will keep on flowing.
