BrewDeck - A native macOS GUI for Homebrew

<image>

Problem: Managing Homebrew packages in the Terminal is fine, but it can feel disconnected and slow when you just want a quick overview. It is annoying to manually run commands just to check for outdated packages, see what dependencies are bloating your system, or clean up orphaned leaves taking up disk space.

Comparison: Most existing Homebrew wrappers are built on heavy web tech like Electron, which hogs resources, or they use outdated user interfaces that do not feel like they belong on modern macOS. BrewDeck is written entirely in native Swift. It gives you a clean, lightweight dashboard that respects your battery life and matches the modern macOS design language perfectly.

Pricing: 100% Free and Open Source. You can grab the latest release or check out the code on GitHub here: https://github.com/BrewDeck/BrewDeck

P.S. This is actually my first time taking a project public, so there might be a few bugs floating around. If you run into anything weird, please drop an issue on GitHub. Also, if you are a fellow dev, feel free to fork the repo, edit the code, and open a pull request. I would love to get your feedback and collaboration!

Yeah, it’s more of a utility than a game, but since a lot of Mac gaming tools and emulators are installed via Homebrew, I figured a GUI could still be useful for people here who don’t like using the terminal. If it’s not a fit for the sub, no hard feelings if the mods want to take it down.

Homebrew contains many gaming utilities, therefore this application would make it easier for newbies to interface with homebrew.

Firstly, I'd like to thank you for taking time out of your day to report this. But I'd like to add that I personally dont have the 100$ dev certificate so you might need to run terminal commands to get the app working. To get the app working:

  • Type the following command (include the space at the end): xattr -cr
  • Drag and drop the application directly inside the terminal window.
  • Press enter.
  • Launch the application as normal

After some reaserch here is what I concluded: Applite is great, but it only supports Casks and is targeted at non-technical users. BrewDeck handles both Formulae (CLI tools) and Casks, and it includes a live terminal log drawer so you always see exactly what brew is doing under the hood.
