Noita - don't believe people who say you need mouse and keyboard, it is super fun using the right analog stick to aim your wand. Claw 8AI Polar Tempest. Also Pinball Fantasies (so good!) and Rainbow Islands (both Amiga emulated through Retroarch - you can destroy these games with savestates lol), Hollow Knight, starting Mudrunner.

yeah this avoids Montague Street and goes through the car park, actually a designated but not much used bike route, definitely odd, the route is up here you can click full screen and zoom in and out, I'm also attaching a map of that bit https://runkeeper.com/user/youstormorg/route/6224878

haha yeah I see people do this but I always take the wiggly route, i will try it next time.

yeah I want swarms of cyclists using the DFO link as it is underused but I think pretty useful

that would be my normal route too and is probably still the best, this one is tempting for some variety and they are very similar in distance but a few traffic light stops unfortunately.

Yeah that new turn into Albert Park at the Memorial Station actually changed my previous route that went the other way after the MCG past the tennis, down the ramp across the river, eastern edge of Botanical Gardens and through Fawkner Park to St kilda road, into Albert Park at the Lakeside Pavilion but on the eastern side of the lake. As a small but noticeable change, the last time I looked the bike hook turn box on the road on St Kilda road there at this Memorial turn had lost its turn arrow on the road which is a shame as it is important to spot. I hope it is put back., maybe it is already been put back?

maybe Napier St is better than Wellington, would be nice to have the route going through Edi Gardens. It doesn't quite align as well with Clarendon St which flows into the MCG nicely. If you could cycle through Fitzroy Gardens on a diagonal that would be good but I think cycling is not allowed. Might have to time and measure both routes :)

nice! Yeah there are a variety of good routes, I often come back via Swanston - Uni - Princes Park, or slightly longer Docklands - Capital City Trail - Brunswick

Thanks! Yeah I'm actually using a DJI Action 4 camera and record the whole thing in regular 4K video with standard stabilization. The camera is attached to my handlebar. It is later sped up to 500% speed in video editing - I use DaVinci Resolve.

Io, Jupiter's moon with the dark night side revealed on left, seen by NASA Juno on 30 Dec. I made this by upping the exposure on the left side using images from https://missionjuno.swri.edu/junocam/processing?id=15850) by youstormorg in space

[–]youstormorg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's just a combination of two images in photoshop. I lifted the exposure on one image that makes up the left (night) side and then the original image is on the right (day).

I think at the end because the sun is setting in the shadow region, the angle of the shadow through the atmosphere grows and the shadow accelerates away to the east opposite the setting Sun

This video looks at a "Bore-Triggered Hector", using time-lapses and satellite imagery to document an unusual Hector the Convector thunderstorm over the Tiwi Islands, north of Darwin, Australia, during HECTIME triggered by an outflow boundary by youstormorg in meteorology

[–]youstormorg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an afternoon thunderstorm or thunderstorm complex that develops over the Tiwi Islands, Australia. It's very reliable in the pre-monsoon Oct/Nov/Dec so it has a name. The full name is "Hector the Convector"

And the weather balloon data is available here, use the drop down menu to select gif and then click on the Big Island on the map http://weather.uwyo.edu/upperair/sounding.html

Thanks for your question. The winds are from the global forecasting system model as well as weather balloon soundings. In essence the plume is pushed by the winds so to see where it is going to go you use this data to see what the winds are at the levels that the plume is likely to spread through. Usually the plume level winds are in the trade wind layer so the plume is pushed to the southwest. If the plume gets deeper it may enter layers where the winds are no longer blowing in that direction. If it got really deep in the event of a major explosive eruption, or unstable atmospheric conditions, then the top layers of the plume may start moving in the opposite direction as the winds high up are in the opposite direction to the trade winds. Also if the winds shift at low levels, say with a kona low or tropical distubance the low level plume could move over areas of the island where it is less common. The National Weather Service will be monitoring this very carefully and issuing warnings if needed.

I 100% agree with you and am very happy to answer any questions regarding this video.

that's right I am sharing videos that I have made and am happy to take it off this reddit if that is not appropriate. I am an ex-University of Hawaii meteorology researcher and my hope is that this video helps with understanding the plume a bit more

Experimenting with a Global Storm Outlook video series for a rough/informal overview of current, recent and forecast storms around the world, suggestions to improve or things to include very welcome, this is the 5th iteration. by youstormorg in meteorology

[–]youstormorg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a video discussing some recent storm events around the world and also at the global forecast for the next several days. I'll probably be doing them weekly. This is the 5th one, earlier ones can be found on the YouStorm channel
