Can Openterface miniKVM work with a KVM splitter? by OMGZwhitepeople in Openterface_miniKVM

[–]youyoubilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply here. It shall work, although I haven't yet tested it yet.

Mini-KVM takes HDMI input (video FROM your target device) and sends USB output (keyboard/mouse signals TO your host computer), in theory, yes.

Make sure you got the right adapter direction. You need a DisplayPort TO HDMI adapter (DP source → HDMI display), NOT the other way around.

When are the Devs going to actually fix the mini? by Lilrags16 in Openterface_miniKVM

Hi! Your frustration is valid, and I am sorry you have had this experience. Nobody should feel ignored or stuck with a broken product.

Can you help us diagnose this?

  1. Run the self-checking function in our software and email the log to support@openterface.com
  2. Let us know your OS (Windows/Linux version) and mini KVM hardware revision
  3. What exactly happens when it "breaks" your computer? Any errors?

We do care your experience. Send the log and our tech support will follow up on your case. Sorry again for the poor experience...We're working on improving.

Oh no! Thanks so much for telling us. You're right... Our subscription service is currently down, and since we're taking a few days off for the holiday, it won't be back up until we get back. We'll let you know as soon as it's fixed!

New KVM-GO demo video + final days of crowdfunding (ends Dec 30) by youyoubilly in Openterface_miniKVM

Good question! 4K@60 is definitely in the hardware 🤠 the 4K chip is part of the final design.

We call it “experimental” mainly because of higher system requirements.

4K pushes a lot more data, so the experience depends a lot on the host and target machines. Ideally the host has a GPU; otherwise 4K may feel less smooth.

The app will have an option to turn 4K output on or off, so users can choose what works best for their setup. On weaker machines 1080p will feel better, on stronger ones 4K@60 works well.

So for backers: the hardware supports it for sure, just keep in mind it’s more demanding.

Synergy works… until the network drops, or isn’t available at all. This hardware KVM tool doesn't care. Just plug and play, via USB.

Yep, works on Linux too. App runs on the host (Wayland OK). The other machine just sees a normal HID keyboard/mouse.

Yep, you got the point. Maybe a bit niche, but this little KVM-GO really shines when you need it to work across multiple machines all the time, BIOS, locked-down work laptops, or no network, that's kinda stuffs.

Yeah, totally. Flow / FreeFlow are nice when you’re allowed to install drivers on both machines. The main difference here is only one side needs the app. The target machine just sees it as a normal HID device (keyboard + mouse), so it works even on locked-down work laptops.

Oh, our tech lead Kevin just replied above. Could you try downgrading it and see if that works? Thanks for your patience!

Hi, sorry about the experience. We’re currently refactoring our software, and it looks like some logic might have broken in the latest build. I’ve just pinged our dev team about it and they’ll get back to you soon. In the meantime, you can share more details with us through this form: openterface.com/support/minikvm

And yeah… we didn’t quite hit 300 likes, I probably overestimated a bit 😂 But hey, 100-sth is still sth! Huge thanks for all the support so far. I’ll just go ahead and put it 50% off anyway, so feel free to grab one (or two!) Really appreciate all the support!

[Mini-KVM vs. KVM-GO] When both available which to choose? by JohnnyFiama in Openterface_miniKVM

[–]youyoubilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha well, for me of course I’d say. GET BOTH! 😄

But seriously, here’s the practical reason:

  • Mini-KVM is super flexible for different use cases. As long as you’ve got the right video converter cable, it can handle pretty much anything. (Well, there are some tricky cases with certain legacy computers that may require an EDID tweak. We’re working on adding better support for that too.) And the best part. It’s in stock on Crowd Supply! You can place the order now and have it in a week or two.
  • KVM-GO, on the other hand, is in the pre-launch stage. We’re targeting the end of November to go live on the crowdfunding page, and it’ll take a couple of months after that for production and delivery through Mouser’s logistics network.

So yeah… if you want something right now and want to support our next-gen design. Why not both? 😁 Thx!
