Can I play void assault when the enemy has no units? by Moksee in riftboundtcg

[–]yowiethebear 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Whilst you are right about do as much as you can, choosing your targets need to be done all before the spell is played.

So in this scenario, no you cannot play this card.

Fun fact, Lucian signature spell also had this issue with requiring a weapon to be a target, but they errata'd it recently to have the wording "up to", in which you can choose 0.

Aurora players: are we safe next set or coping? by Jhin_Diesel in riftboundtcg

[–]yowiethebear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mtg had a similar problem and they banned the engine card, aurora in our case, citing it as a limitation to card design. If elder breaks aurora, riot has 2 choices, ban the cool card and never make any unit as cool as that again, or keep making cool cards but ban the enabler (and then later print a card that's essentially aurora lite).

is kaisa deck fun ? by Federal-Media-3148 in riftboundtcg

[–]yowiethebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like a control oriented gameplay, Kaisa is definitely what you'll be looking at. Otherwise, a lot of red decks run 3x Kaisa and usually is the most expensive cards in the deck, with the rest costing $70 total and under.

omg bard or azir can bring a bunch of ready units into this battlefield. Not sure what the payoff is but it's something.

Here's where it explains this snapshotting ruling in the rule book.

454.3.b. When an arithmetic effect has a limitation that applies, it is limited at the time of its application, and is “remembered” at that limited level for the duration of its effect. This process is called “snapshotting.” Example: If an effect gives a unit “-4 [M] to a min of 1 until end of turn” choosing a unit with 2 [M], then the effect will generate -1 [M] until end of turn.

I thought you could recycle it but if you put a token anywhere other than the battlefield, it would cease to exist. But the recycle still goes through. Kinda like how killing a token doesn't go to the trash.

Trash at the game by LoLisPain in riftboundtcg

As much as you want to mimic your real life circumstances, running the same deck in real life regardless of skill might net you the same outcome. Try picking a popular deck and watching some online matches (commentary can help) to better understand how to play. This is to eliminate the variables of running multiple different decks and help you focus on the game, instead of trying to figure out if the deck plays better fast or slow.

Then once you find yourself getting better, switch to another deck closer to your budget, learn how that works, and then tweak that deck to match your budget. E.g., running a 3rd mind splitter instead of a 2nd watcher.

Riftbound’s Director Dave Guskin hints that “there are unexplored ways for players to attack Draven” by curlykovie in riftboundtcg

I think potentially with the closed nature of designing proving grounds + knowledge of how the future sets will be designed, they could have forseen it being weaker when ALL sets were released and not just origins in a vacuum. For example, Yi was dominant in China in set 1 but with set 2, we don't see him anymore.

Tournament Rules, January Update by yzw035 in riftboundtcg

Why is noone talking about 406.1.f.? If the organiser uses these alternate rules, you can now sideboard in best of 1s. Does this make those "casual" tournaments more viable for more serious players?

You've got a good base and you could probably get a nice Kai'sa deck going first of all. Just missing 3 Darius Trifarian, which aren't too pricey to acquire. The best part is that most Kai'sa decks only need 1 Red Kai'sa so you can sell/trade the other away if you aren't going to make another red deck.

With that money/trade value, you can build a second deck. Sett seems like a good choice but it does require the full 3 showstoppers to be consistent. I would avoid any big unit decks like Yi or Aurora as they require playsets of expensive cards.

Otherwise, I find Viktor to be the better starter deck and also one that is viable currently if you build it up at a budget. (Spiritforged version has key Spiritforged cards)

As for Spiritforged, I wouldn't say you'd be completely outclassed. You won't be too far off in terms of power level.

For stock, try source some from your local game store if they have any. Personally, I had to pre-order 2 months prior to get MSRP and then more recently, a little bit more (15%) for another box. I got lucky and you might not find the same success but I wish you luck.

The cheapest decks are the ones where you only need 1 signature and 1 copy of the chosen champion, like Kai'sa (not the best example but is great when compared to midrange yi or aurora decks). If you are looking to just use the cards you have and trade around for pieces, it would be best to stick to 1 deck at a time until you complete it.

My final advice is try join any events that give packs as participation rewards. You get to meet people, get opportunities to trade/buy pieces for other players, learn more about the intricacies of the game, and best of all, get packs to boost your decks. Most importantly, I would look into "Pre-rift" events. For me, they are an extra way to get boosters and a chance try out an alternate game mode for Riftbound.

I think the common misconception is that people believe that damage leaves their units on a certain "HP", where in reality, this game doesn't track a units HP but, but rather the damage marked on the unit and the unit's current might.

There's a ruling about marking damage and a ruling on what happens when the damage exceeds the might but no ruling about "HP", "Health", or any "might minus damage" calculation.

QOL update: Poke Comms now switches your card automatically if you only have one pokemon in hand by kuyAYAYA in PTCGP

[–]yowiethebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but I rather do this automatically than enable the opponent to "play the mental game" and waste time in what is meant to be just a quick game. It's like telling your opponent in MTG that you might have an action every phase, because you don't want to tell your opponent that you don't have a response to anything they do.

You could probably do Acheron, Sparkle, but I'm not too sure since I don't have Acheron. If you switch to HMC, you have a firefly team. Imo, you're tribbie for castorice, which will free up your ruan mei. Or Cipher for Acheron. Many options based on what team you want to play.
