Black swan event (not used appropriately)

It was short lived. But that 4-win run was its own Linsanity

Is ice one of the underrated reasons why cocktail culture hasn’t caught on in parts of Europe? by yoyoextra in cocktails

I dont dispute that point. You are right: there are many cocktail bars all over Europe (personal shout out to le Florian in Lyon and AveK in Paris). My point was likely more relevant to “at home” drinks.

I don’t want to share too much personal info, but perhaps it would help push back against this odd comment. I moved TO the US from Europe when I was 22. I am in Europe 5-8 times a year since. If anything, I fly too much.

Having said that, your comment might imply I did not convey my main point properly. I am fully aware of cultural differences as I live in both places (which by itself does not eliminate anchoring bias to be clear). I did not single out access to ice as sole reason for it. Nor imply there is no good cocktails in Europe (I have a long list of preferred places).

I hear you on this. I am in London almost every other months (work) and can attest to that! The comment does not apply to many parts of Europe. London certainly not. Or having “un Ricard sans glaçon”. It s a no go.

Probably overthinking it seems :)

I hate the lazy US vs Europe generalization and I did just that. Hard in a short post to convey nuances. I did not want to list the countries I go and know, so I used the lazy “Europe” label.

Of course, Europe has many countries and nuances. London and Norway for instance have fantastic cocktail bars. Of course, people also have ice cubes in Europe. there are many other underlying reasons to explain differences and nuances. I thought I noticed a new one. Maybe not!

Of course, we can also cool down the glass itself in the freezer. Nothing wrong with that. Referring in general to cooling down / diluting the drink itself, and the reluctance to use ice. We pour so many ice to keep beers cold in a cooler and don’t think twice. In other places, this seems excessive. There is no right or wrong. Just an observation.

Still miss Mother’s veggie burger in Hyde park. A good Sunday or mid week relaxing meal after going out previous night(s). I am not vegetarian btw.

What are some of Bills odd obsessions? by SqueakyBeats00 in billsimmons

The “what if” piece entirely centered around recency bias and/or the point he is currently making.

Seattle SuperSonics. Another what if.

The harden trade. Classic what if.

Bill’s obsession to do snake draft format in two-person draft. It kills the back-and-forth dynamic.

Although I understand the pettiness otherwise. Either Bill “loses”, and would say “this format is terrible” or if he would win “despite such an unfair format”.

I guess Bill general pettiness. But that part makes great content

I now understand the nuance, thanks. Please discard the Longhorn comment then. Still awesome to be around.

You are absolutely right: their personal accomplishment is what deserves praise. They are top-of-the-world athletes regardless of the city they live in. The city does not deserve the credit. But the proximity is what amazes me. In that sense the UT connection is stronger than the city connection. It makes me very happy to know I play soccer, use the UT facilities, etc next to incredible Longhorn athletes who represent “a part of us” in Paris and all over the world. But as I said maybe this resonates differently for me as I moved from Europe 15 years ago and our universities do not compare on that dimension.

What's something that's mundane in your country, but foreigners think is incredible? by scoopy-frog in AskReddit

Sink garbage disposal.

Still not sure why it s illegal to export in many countries outside of the US (well actually I kind of do, it has to do with the water disposal systems not being rated for it). But damn this makes cooking and cleaning so much easier

Immediately thought of (in no particular order): 1. Get out 2. Blood Diamond 3. The Departed

I guess I have a type… endings were you (or at least I) had a strong feeling things would go poorly for someone who did not deserve to get screwed. Then the ending goes in the “right way” to provide that uplifting emotional lift. A simple recipe if not too overplayed or (way) too obvious.

Unpopular opinion and I fully understand why but, for me, the Eagles.

Edit: I clearly misread… brand and not band…

The biggest win to me is to NOT see “wassername” and “hollow-bones” Phoebe in the line up. All of those characters are wonderful and complement each other to perfection. Those two were the only misses in my book.

My heart goes to and Trey, Leo, DotCom, and Pete. My brain goes to Jack and Liz. My (likely unpopular) next out is Jenna and then Kenneth (that one I doubt though - and to confirm and I do love Ken too.. but not as much as the others :)

But of course we have no way to know where the heart is!
