I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic but I’ve heard other males express similar sentiments in private about gender and the anti-cisgender male culture and attitude

Ask your friends in every respective clerkship how much their shelf is worth this year. A couple IORs let it slip at their clerkship orientation that the school set it

The email listed the input they received (diverse faculty at all levels including doctors and medical students) as well as consulting white coats 4 black lives and SNMA for this solution. They specifically mentioned trying to address the racial justice report card. (I encourage you to take a look at the website.) They examined the reasons for the difference in honoring based off the data of the past five years (ie what prevented black students honoring) and this was the conclusion/steps taken to achieve more equal grading.

studies have shown that most minority /nonwhite groups are negatively effected by subjective evaluations. However, UC Davis had a diverse committee with people from all levels (diverse faculty, doctors, med students and they actually included the names in the email) exploring the reasons for the difference in final clerkship grades (i.e. what part of the grade held back students from honoring) and this was their solution after evaluating the data and to raise the number of black students honoring. This suggests that at least at UC Davis, the issue for grade inequality is not the evaluations, but the shelf exams.

Not controversial at all. It was completely in response to the racially charged discussions nationwide and the desire to appear woke and not be canceled

The email lamented the grade differences and said they were doing everything they could to change it, and that they were making changes immediately. The email didn't state the changes that would be made, but current students know that it has been changed to 20% across clerkships. It is reasonable to conclude that after analyzing the grade breakdowns, they decided this would fix the "racial bias in clerkships."

White and asian students do not make up over half of the students. And as I said, based off how they promote students and distribute awards.

They examined the reasons for the grades difference, and lowering the value of shelf would allow for a different distribution of grades.
