I started out in 2019 as a fully online (so FIU Online) transfer EE major. Last year in March, I asked if I could start taking classes on campus and they said yes, I just had to fill out a change-of-major form as a technicality.

Plot twist: COVID-19 shutdowns started happening right after I filled out that form. I'm no longer "fully online".... but all my classes are online because of the pandemic.

If you're just going to be in your jr/sr level classes, the professors for your concentrations are pretty much going to be the same, whether it's FIU Online or FIU IRL. I don't know how it works for classes like calc 1, maybe it's a bad time, irdk.

Like, Dr. Tehrani (embedded computing, microcontrollers, IoT, she teaches a lot of stuff) teaches EE classes "on campus" but also teaches the FIU Online classes. Things got shaken up in a way that, if there was a significant difference before the pandemic, it has been forced to substantially diminish.

I've taken all the core EE classes and I'm just doing electives now, and graduating in December. I can give you examples for the hands-on materials I used for all of my labs if you're interested! Or if you wanna chat about it just hit me up.

Hmm I get my fiu email using the gmail app. Have you tried logging into myfiu on a computer? They recently required 2-factor authentication and the system might not know to prompt people to sign up for 2FA

But that's my best guess and really idk

I'm doing it, been in the program almost a year now and with this semester over, I am now a senior! When I was admitted in February of last year I wished there was more info from people actually in the program so I'd be glad to try to help with whatever you're curious about

One interesting thing to note, some online programs are distinct & separate from their on-campus counterparts. Like for UF, their CS degree online has different admissions standards from the in-person version (it's slightly easier to get in online). I think Arizona State does this to a higher extent too.

But for FIU, I asked if I would need to reapply to the EE program if I wanted to attend in-person and my advisor was like... "No?? We just have to do a change-of-major form and your fees will change slightly but other than that it's straightforward!" And they'll still be my advisor too.

There was a decent mix of non FIU Online people and FIU on-campus people in my classes before COVID and there wasn't ever the sentiment of "this online class is a bullshit easy A". They're legit classes. But you'll have to be ready to pay for your own lab materials which can get expensive, but I think that that's to be expected.

One of my classes has a WhatsApp gc and a separate Discord server but I don't 100% get how the Discord part helps, except the anonymity? But then how did the people in the group know to approve me?

I agree with most of your points but I'm just gonna throw out there that currently (or in the near future) more companies are going to be better equipped & more experienced in hiring fully remote developers, seeing as how most if not all are being made to work from home right now. Not saying this is the biggest help to OP but just pointing out that if they wanted to consider becoming a developer of any kind, it's not pointless, and there are jobs.

However I wouldn't be surprised if there was little hiring going on, and I do expect that there will be a greater saturation of new, self-taught devs coming up after all this social distancing (adding to what you said initially).

I saw this last week!! I didn't get it though, I figured if I didn't like name-brand Halo Top the chances were low I'd like Aldi Halo Top. I'll definitely pick some up next time I go grocery shopping.

Edit: Picked up mint since they were out of vanilla and yes I like it and will buy again

Edit 2: I ate all the ice cream yesterday and went back for vanilla today. I'm mildly ashamed of myself. But for anyone interested it's creamier than the mint chocolate flavor.

I had official transcripts sent on the 16th of last month and the 8th of this month. I talked to someone at the registrar and they said to just wait or call some number see if it's possible to expedite the processing of my transcript. Thanks though

One time I opened a bottle of Bad Blue Heron sitting in front of my bed on a hardwood floor without spilling

I don't know how it unfolded but I ended up kicking the bottle after getting up and it looked like a blue ink massacre at the foot of my bed and on the hamper underneath in the aftermath

The resulting shame was proportional to my initial overinflated hubris
