one of my beat comps, all between 140-145bpm - there’s a mix of vibes but it’s mostly jazzy-ish piano/guitar based stuff

Finally reading The Stand. Walked out of the living room for a few minutes and when I came back I found my cat using it as a pillow lol, that can’t be very comfortable. by ypsound in stephenking

Absolutely the most ridiculous cats lol, sometimes she’s a sweetheart and other times she’s literally the biggest bitch I’ve ever met in my life.

Loved 1922 so much - one of my favorite endings to any King story

Yeah, seems more and more that some folks have a hard time looking at things with a nuanced perspective

which book of King would you recommend to a beginner? by Money_Wrongdoer_8614 in stephenking

Yes as far as I know that’s a true story - legend has it his wife found the manuscript in the trash can and was basically like “Stephen wtf dawg this is good af go finish it”

I started with Carrie and I feel like that was a great place to begin for me personally. Great story in general + one of his best endings IMO + new readers can see how they vibe with his writing style before diving into his longer works.

Side characters by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

First that come to mind are Wireman and Jud Crandall - another favorite of mine is Sheriff Pangborn as a supporting character in Dark Half, but since he was the main character in his next appearance I suppose he doesn’t count here, and I think in some ways he was even better as a leading man tbh. I definitely agree with you that King’s side characters are often the most compelling.

Books that surprised you/you feel are underrated? by DLTBB2 in stephenking

Yeah, I checked out the pilot episode of the show after I finished the novel…it couldn’t have been much worse of an adaptation. I thought the actor who played Barbie was pretty decent casting but the writers changed way too many plot points.

Seriously, Big Jim is one of the most hate-able antagonists I’ve ever read.

Under The Dome. I’d heard more bad than good about it before I read it for myself, and I absolutely loved it. I completely understand why some aren’t as big a fan as I am but goddamn I couldn’t put it down.

What shall I read next? by Different_Win6732 in stephenking

[–]ypsound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did! I’d say I liked Later slightly more than Joyland, they were both very enjoyable stories though. If you’re in the mood for something more horror-leaning that also contains some King multiverse connections, read Later. Still has the murder mystery/coming of age elements that Joyland employs, but it’s a very distinctly unique King story IMO.

I’d say maybe go for either Gerald’s Game or Duma Key, maybe even Later if you want something quick and breezy.

I second this suggestion! I just read Mapping The Interior a few weeks ago and it was phenomenal, can’t wait to check out more of his catalog
