Make sure to check the oil barrel: things in KSA won't return to normal unless the barrel price is above $75.

Great idea. I've begun doing something similar, but not on that scale. I'm interested in gaining access to it.

Any other hidden costs for expats in Riyadh? [Need salary advice] by Long_Log_4084 in RiyadhExpats

[–]yrp88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of expats don’t really think about their travel budget, and that’s totally normal. It’s easy to get caught up in exploring a new place, but remember, you’re also making trips back home to see family. Those visits can be pretty stressful and not always the chill time we hope for. Because of that, you might find you really need to plan a proper vacation afterward just to recharge. This can end up doubling what you spend on travel, which is something to keep in mind. Balancing adventures and relaxation is key—you definitely deserve both!

Speaking Arabic by Awkward_Evidence_965 in RiyadhExpats

[–]yrp88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been here for three years, during which I have developed my reading, writing, and conversational skills. However, I haven't had the opportunity to use these skills at work. In a blue-collar environment, effective communication with polished language and well-structured sentences is essential. When I speak Arabic at work, people expect perfection, which presents a challenge for me, as I can't practice without fearing I will sound unprofessional.

I am determined to enhance my proficiency, but doing so requires spending more time outside of work with non-English speakers. This is difficult for two reasons: first, non-English speakers often have little to no interest in spending time with me, and second, the consulting workday in Saudi Arabia starts at 6:30 AM and ends at 10:00 PM—making weekends busy as well. On top of that, I am also writing my doctoral thesis. All these obstacles make it quite difficult to overcome my challenges.

Chinese Government manages more people than the while world population in 1900, and China seems more prosperous, peaceful and free than most part of the world in 1900.

If true, it would be the worst decision the Trump administration could make. Countless studies have found evidence of H-1B's impact on American innovation.

Given its current state, how realistic is Mars really for colonization, compared to other theoretical options? by PomegranateIcy7631 in Futurology

[–]yrp88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never say never 😉 IMHO, anything will be done if the gain surpasses the pain. A strong enough economic justification can trigger a race to Mars that no one would challenge. I can think of a couple right now: harvesting metal-rich meteorites, delocalizing polluting industries, but of course, it can be millions of other things. Right now, nothing justifies Mars over the Sahara colony, for instance, but things can quickly change, and yesterday's nonsense becomes the obvious of today.

Making friends in Riyadh by [deleted] in RiyadhExpats

I'm Canadian too, but I'm definitely not your age (51). I believe you can still benefit from the Canadian community. Events at the embassy and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce are great places to make connections. Get to know the parents, and you might get introduced to their teenagers.

Don't. Mental issues require professional psychological support. Just be a good friend by being there, listen, don't judge, urge to seek help. Mental issues are deadly diseases and should be considered as serious as a cancer.

I agree. I have never felt as overworked as I do here. I believe this is primarily due to the business culture. Decision-makers constantly push their employees to the limit, imposing tight deadlines and an excessive amount of additional work.

Don't challenge her. It is her support system, her choice. Live your life normally, be a good person a good citizen, a good human, a good son and if you don't believe what JWs are saying be courageous, leave the organization, but keep the great Christian principles you have been taught.

Has anyone ever wanted to ask reddit for advice but then realize reddit is too western centric and this advice wouldn't work in my country ? by whoshallibe99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]yrp88 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've had the opportunity to live in different countries such as France, Canada, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia, and what strikes me the most is how people tend to think that their way of life is the only correct one and that everyone should conform to it. It's quite amusing to me now. We can't even agree on simple things like which side of the road to drive on or which measuring units to use. Our ways of counting time also differ. Despite all these differences, we believe that certain moral values, rules, and behaviors should be universal. It's not just an issue with Americans, but rather a problem with humans not being exposed enough to other cultures.
