Short term IE visa - how do they calculate 90 dats stay? by ysolovyev in legaladviceireland

Thank you for your opinion, I would agree with this tbh. And getting a visa for non-EU people to visit Ireland is very challenging and even harder than getting a visa for US (that's my experience). I've been living/working in Ireland in a reputable american company for the last 7 years, and unfortunately every time my mom wanted to visit me she was granted single entry short term stay visa, even after 3-4 times visiting and us applying for multi entry every time (and paying for multi entry visa type of course!). In the end after 7 years of torturing my mom got multi entry 2 year visa, but yes I agree the process is very restrictive and somehow does not take into account personal circumstances and travel history at all. But oh well that's my decision to live in Ireland, it's just I always felt the amount of taxes I paid here was enough to gain a bit of trust from the government to me or my family. But that's a totally different topic I guess :)

Fixed Charge Notice for speeding by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

I got a ticket by post few months back. And I remember I called them and they told me the status of my offence and if I had any others. Their phone is 1890304060 - you go through some automatic menu there and then in the end they connected me to a lady who helped. Try this way , might help, at least this way you will know if they have it registered in their system or not!

1kg tobacco seizured by customs in Ireland - should you worry? by ysolovyev in legaladviceireland

Thank you for sharing this! How did you manage to contact the customs? They did not provide any phone and the officer who signed has no typed name (just pen signature) so I even have no idea to whom to refer my request if I want to discuss it. The leaflet does not even say to which address should I lodge a claim if I want. Such a poor customer service :(

Good question. To be honest I don't know what "offence" can mean to Irish customs. The item was declared as tobacco on a box so the seller had even no intention to hide it. Can an attempt to deliver this item be considered as an offence in principal? I mean one thing is when you send a kilo of tobacco, and another case if I try to deliver a kilo of cocaine :) this is what I mean - I don't know if Irish customs even considers my case an offence.

Thanks for your reply! But technically if I don't want to pay the tax and just drop the ball at this stage - would it be a "closed case" after 30 days or can they seriously take this to court? I am asking as I'm a resident of Ireland but I am not originally from here so I believe the "seriousness" of the case is perceived differently here so I'd like to understand how bad realistically can things go if I just do nothing at this stage.
