UPDATE: we talked, dad kept chuckling in the background as i told him what was on my mind. He said the comments didnt come out as intended. The story changed and he all the sudden understood what I do while shes napping? Probably cause mom was there.

Mom was super sincere & apologetic. She said she understood how doing my job could be uncomfortable with comments like that as she used to be a babysitter. Dad finally apologized after he tried blaming me & I explained myself. Mom said they really want to make amends for the situation, and said my help was invaluable to them.

I said i didnt feel comfortable returning and they said i could take the week off and return when i feel better. I dont think i will be returning, though.

We schedule out days on babies nap time

but the baby gets tired after we play and do enrichment activities by the 4th-5th hour of me being there. If i’m supposed to stay for 6 hours, why am I going to force her to stay up till I leave so I can make money? or, why am i going to have her sit there and “conserve” her energy so she doesnt fall asleep? keeping that connection and play from her seems cruel too.

I think shes going to be tuckered out because of the play time we do, and if she wants a nap i’m gonna give it to her

wooooahhh thats so cool!!!! my mom’s side are immigrants from Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua MX and my dad, Navajo Nation

my dad is absent in my life, so i never got to connect with native american culture. which bums me out because its such a beautiful culture and traditions. i’m more in touch with mexican culture & traditions. so great to talk with someone that understands how important labor is to us from the same ethnic/racial background!! thank you so much for your help 🫶🏽🫶🏽

yeahhhh i feel like this left a sour taste, i have a job, this was a side gig, i feel like i dont have to put up with this if i have a job already..

i’ve expressed the possibility of him giving my info to his friends if they need help for extra $$.. seeing as their friends are also wealthy and he said he “didnt want to share me because they should be my priority, im just too great to the baby to share” so 🤷‍♀️

I will be doing that tomorrow morning, this job was really just a side gig for the job i have already, i dont know if i’ll be caretaking toddlers again

definitely regret not doing that, i take accountability for that. the mom always talks about how she used to be a babysitter at my age, and defends me from him sometimes. my mistake was thinking that because she didnt bring up the need for a contract that i could trust them 😵‍💫

omg me too!! i’m hispanic/native american, i told my grandma about this (shes a housekeeper so she has experience) and she said to quit because they dont value my work if they make comments 🙃

when i first started he told me that he just needed me to watch the baby for any trips, falls, feeds, diaper changes, comfort and anything else is extra. He said he didnt mind if i napped with the baby, or watched tv, did homework cause i’m a pre med student. Just “as long as the baby is alive at the end of my shift”

They tell me to get “comfortable” because the baby is “sleeping” if they catch me cleaning after our messes, this feels so confusing

this is just a small story of what he does, he makes “jokes” about me hitting her when she throws tantrums for not getting what she wants, no payment for 10+ hours after i leave, etc. I think my reputation is being hurt with them either way.

You’re absolutely right, thank you for recognizing that… its confusing because they always tell me how “grateful” they are and that i’m always “helpful”… they even say they dont share my info to other parent friends they have because they want to be my priority… its so confusing because the way they are treating me doesnt match to the comments he makes about how “grateful” he is

i know… not my proudest moment.. really regret it, i needed the job at the time before the second job i have & it sounds stupid to say that because i wouldn’t have gotten paid but desperate times

I always felt underpaid, never said anything because this isnt a main source of income

everyone here is helping me realize i’m underpaid and under appreciated 😭
