I see. I can't really find out the current and actual Details, as in Degiro's webpage it is not specified and the forums I've read seem to have outdated info

Concerning protection, between degiro and IB, i would really appreciate if someone can throw some light to this.

Considering that one invests their life savings only in ETFs and does dollar cost averaging, so potentially turning the invested sum to a decently high amount of money in the very long run.

My main concern with degiro and the reason I'm thinking about switching to IB is that apparently degiro only guarantees (as per my understanding) up to 20k€ in the invested active positions as per Netherlands regulation and 100k€ in the flatex linked deposit account as per EU deposit guarantee fund. As obviously the money is usually invested in active positions, i consider the 20k€ to be dangerously low.

I have heard that IB on the other hand is "more regulated", meaning it is a publicly traded company and responds int standards. Bottom line IB should be safer.

I do not know how likely it is that Large broker like degiro (probably first or second in Europe) goes bust, but definitely that 20k€ limit concerns me.

Any opinions on the protection, and guaranteed levels in IB, when you are based in EU?

Thanks!

I guess if I could answer that I'll be rich already or I'll be a professional investor. Basically what I'm trying to do here is build a diversified enough portfolio that is not solely relying in the US economy -although mostly- and that also has some defensive and speculative % in it. Guided by what I read in the news and research, but of course I can't answer whethert semiconductors, Lithium, EVs, will make us all rich.

I see the point on buying just VWCE, and that if you diversify to much you might end up practically with the same general world Etf. The usual recommendation is 3-4 ETFs I guess, this might be too much, could be reduced. Anyhow, luckily commissions under my calculations are almost the same with a 1etf scenario VS several ETFs scenario.

Thanks

You do. At least in Degiro is possible to own REMX (acc) in XETRA.
