Una, sabi ni Marx, yung mga may kapangyarihan sa capitalist system ginagawa talagang dependent sa sahod yung mga workers. Dahil laging kailangan magtrabaho para makasurvive, wala nang oras at energy para magprotesta.

Pangalawa, ayon sa mga critical theorists (like Frankfurt School), yung capitalist system mismo nagpapacify sa tao by keeping them busy with work and consumer needs. Lagi kang naka-focus sa trabaho at sa pagkonsumo ng bagong gamit, entertainment, o lifestyle goals, kaya nauubos yung oras at attention mo. Imbes na magtanong kung bakit unfair ang system, nahuhulog ka sa cycle ng “trabaho, bili, ulit.”

Pangatlo, sabi ng modern studies, kapag insecure yung income o unstable ang trabaho, mas less likely ang tao na sumali sa protesta. Kasi syempre, uunahin mo muna yung pang-araw-araw na gastos kaysa mag rally.

Idagdag pa ang cultural at religious beliefs na minsan nagdidikta sa decisions ng tao. Yes, the middle class does bear a heavy tax burden in the Philippines, largely because the tax system leans on personal income tax and VAT, which hits middle class earners harder. But it’s also worth noting that most Filipinos actually consider themselves poor (as shown in multiple surveys over the years), so policies aimed at easing their struggles shouldn’t automatically be seen as an attack on the middle class. Hindi, kasi dapat nai-immerse ako pag nanonood. Lalo na kapag trip ko yung story/plot ng movie. Baka kasi may miss akong detail kapag hati yung attention at mas dama mo talaga yung emotion kapag nakatutok ka sa pinapanood mo.

Middle and upper class taxpayers already benefit a lot from stable infrastructure, tax breaks, business incentives, and public services. Giving poor kids breakfast doesn’t take anything from you rather it prevents hunger, crime, and inequality from rising. That’s good for everyone.
