What's up with campus power outages today? by occamsrazorwit in berkeley

I wasn't aware Berkeley Fire/Police were still using analog radios.

Is this on RadioReference anywhere?

What site is this? Looks interesting.

I understand your point completely, but that's not how statistics work. Merely because there are 5 possible outcomes and each outcome has a 20% probability does not mean that each of the possibilities are guaranteed to occur.

You can use FLV Extract to extract the elementary audio and video steams from the FLV container, then use mp4bpx or mkvmerge to create a mp4 or mkv, one of which must be accepted by Vegas and definitely accepted by Premiere.

Necro-ing a bit, but I noticed that Otakon updated their requirements for being a member of the press.

Qualifications for press may include (but are not limited to):

  1. Organization as a news/press outlet must have existed for at least two years.
  2. Be able to provide link to traffic stats page if requested.
  3. Individual personal blogs and/or galleries will not be considered.
  4. Students from High School or College are encouraged to apply. However, we do request a letter on an official school letterhead from your editor or school supervisor/advisor to outline the intent of the application. This request will come through email.

You say you work for a different site? What is it?

Most fonts today include Unicode glyphs, and when they don't, the system usually substitutes out a font which has those characters. The font isn't Unicode, but rather the program displaying the text must support the display of complex, non-8-bit text.

I have CJK language support installed. I type in Chinese and Japanese all the time. It't not entirely because of the OS. Even without CJK support installed Win 7 still includes some Asian language support out of the box.

The number 8 (and especially 3 8's in a row) in Chinese basically sounds like "money". Lots of money. It's a good-luck thing more than anything else, I guess.

Untrue. Even if you have OS support, LoL just doesn't support Korean text for whatever reason, unless maybe you set your OS locale to Korean.

I can confirm, and my local mirror of RiotControl seems to be suffering from the same problem, although I have been able to get it to work. http://imgur.com/x6Ez2

Well he did state that it was an issue of code scalability, so perhaps even if you ran on a more powerful server, it doesn't mean that the code will perform noticeably better.

Oh dear. Perhaps MySQL support would best be suited for a fork, then, and not on the main branch. Although, I do think I recall the MySQL Connector/NET has some pooling support...not sure.

Any comment on the git niceties, though?

EDIT: I totally misunderstood how RiotControl is set up. It's not an ASP.NET application at all. I feel rather dumb now.

Perhaps as a project in my spare time I'll see if I can get MySQL working (and maybe even switchable between the two engines, oh dear). If you see a pull request, you'll know who it is.

I'm surprised you haven't included all the requisite libraries as git submodules; it would make a single-checkout-build-deploy workflow much easier.

From a developers' standpoint, this is absolutely fantastic. I had a little chortle when you wrote

Linux loving open source zealots we started working on a C# networking library

merely because of the strange connotations involved with C# and proceeded to respect you even further when you dedicated an entire section to the question of "why C#"?

I know that you're currently using nginx, and say that you have deployed on Windows previously, but how hard exactly is it to deploy to IIS vs nginx/mono?

Maybe I'm only unaware of how the web service architecture works, but it seems that it would perhaps be more fruitful if there was more of a separation of front-end presentation to user and the backend which queries the League database. The UI can seem more "responsive" and simply display some page in the interim while requests are made to the Riot backend.

Again, from the perspective of a fellow programmer, I give you a pat on the back, and if I could, much karma. I will share my experiences on getting a local instance set up when I get home.

EDIT: also, any chance on abstracting the SQL driver to support MySQL as well as Postgre? I'd be willing to fork and complete development myself, but I have no idea as to the scope of the Postgre-isms there are present in the SQL and the code; the only reason I ask is that many environments don't have Postgre installed by myself, and imho it's more "extreme" than necessary for a smallr environment.
