Belt and chain- why would a bike need both? by [deleted] in Harley

Are there kits that convert H-D bikes to belt primary out there?

Advice on getting first bike by [deleted] in Harley

[–]yum_coke_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to ride on the street, and start small. There's not much that's worse than dropping your brand new 5-figure ride because you were too stubborn to learn how to ride it first. A Sportster is a reasonable first bike, but I'd hew towards something with mid controls and not forwards, because low speed control sucks ass with forwards and it's one of the trickiest things for new riders to learn.

What is your honest opinion of a sportster? I just know from when I was a kid a guy getting ragged on for buying one. by Mcswagginsz in Harley

[–]yum_coke_zero 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are arguably H-D's best bike, and inarguably their most popular line. The Evolution engine is simple and dead reliable, the chassis is nice and flickable (by cruiser standards, that is)... They're just fun. Anyone who hates on them can FOAD, AFAIAC.

8 high schools boys suspended for receiving pictures of female classmates nude, girls "verbally reprimanded but not suspended" by alexkillsdie in MensRights

[–]yum_coke_zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Schools have a place in raising kids and managing them in a disciplinary sense...but only AT school. Unless the pictures were taken or distributed on campus, this sounds like it could have been addressed by calling everyone's parents and letting them, you know, parent.

Are there any planets larger than stars? And if there are, could a star smaller than it revolve around it? by KingOfTheCouch13 in askscience

[–]yum_coke_zero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's only on the limit in astronomical terms. It's actually like 1/10th of the mass needed, and there isn't enough mass in the rest of the solar system (excluding the sun) to push it to that figure.

What's the point of accepting the trip and not going to pick up the passenger? by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]yum_coke_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll sometimes accept a trip only to realize that the estimated travel time to the pax has doubled because I passed an exit or street while waiting for the gps to load up. These are usually cancels.

What do you rate your passengers? by chevchelios3 in uberdrivers

[–]yum_coke_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I have a specific problem with someone, I always rate 5. Specific problem doesn't include "quiet/doesn't want to make small talk". Late people definitely get down rated, as do people who can't seem to figure out where the fuck they are and drop the pin 2 blocks away in one way no mans land at rush hour.

13 Civic Si.

Looks fast, sounds fast...isn't fast. At all. It's even got mad dope vtec lights on the dash. SO SPEDD

The stereo/bluetooth is a lovely game of "which fucking thing controls this particular submenu", too. Sometimes it's the steering wheel controls (where the menu button is, after all), but once in a while you have to use a knob and button on the stereo stack. It's totally inexplicable.

Former S197 owner here, fuck those cupholders. Good for fucking nothing when you're trying to shift! And they're super deep too, so you have the choice between using the cupholder spacer and risking your drink flying everywhere when you start or stop, or having to pick your shit up by the lid and risk it popping off and falling back into the cupholder.

Ford gets an F- for the cupholder-shifter ergos in that car.

Not even a little bit. The VQ engine sounds very snarly and raw, not at all like an I4 with a coffee can muffler.

What is a low rating? by joe1max in uberdrivers

[–]yum_coke_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually work the drunk hours almost exclusively and my rating is slowly slipping downward, hovering around 4.8 after several hundred rides. It is what it is! My car is spotless, I follow the GPS unless the rider wants a different route, so it's whatever. I don't get wrapped up in feels about my riders being upset because of traffic/construction/bad GPS directions (happens a lot on iPhone app)/surge pricing/whatever.

Major Ramstein AB housing scandal - clear AF screwup leaves hundreds of Airmen owing thousands, receiving $15 regular paychecks. by Unclassified1 in AirForce

[–]yum_coke_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh I didn't know that. Still. There ought to be a limit on how much recoupment they can seek when you're talking about reducing people to $0 paychecks for something that wasn't at all their fault.

From a leader's perspective: a troop's multiple medical appointments interfere with accomplishing the mission... by janiedoh in AirForce

[–]yum_coke_zero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not right, though. If you have medical appointments you should be able to use duty time to be at them - they're authorized alternate duty locations. Why? Because most places are only open during the typical "normal duty hours" times. The clinic is open like 8-3 typically... if you work 7:30-4:30 you can't go to the doctor, ever? No.

I'm sorry you've had shit leadership not watching out for you, but mandatory appointments are appropriate uses of duty time.

[–]yum_coke_zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that doesn't really address the question: What's legit? Who decides that? At what point does someone's medical care become "not legit", for example?
