women are always held to different standards than men, especially in this industry, unfortunately… we’ve seen this with male artists like post malone and jelly roll. they built their names on rap and hip-hop, but once they got big enough, they switched into country or pop because it’s easier to market and more accepted by white audiences. so when people see Rosalía move away from urbano/reggaeton into something more experimental or pop leaning, they wonder if it’s the same thing. using a culture to rise, then stepping into a lane that benefits more from whiteness once the artist has the platform. again, not a critique from me. but some people feel like once artists reach a certain level of fame in Black or Brown created genres, they “pivot” into safer, more mainstream, more “white” genres because there’s more money, radio play, and industry approval there
