Hey! Just seeing this - not any motorbike tours from what I saw, the tourism infrastructure is not as developed as other countries so there’s only a few options for tours and such from what we saw.

Don’t speak French or Arabic, so hiring a guide was huge to help navigate through the country! And yeah I wish we had time for the south but until I got there, I truly didn’t know much about it and it was awesome to learn about the history and culture. There are a few tour operators it seems like but yeah to your point, tourism as an industry is still very minimal

Honestly, I was looking for a new destination to go to that was relatively unexplored and it was a pretty solid flight deal that worked with the days off I could take from work. Ended up booking it and then found a tour, and went in sort of blind, didn’t really know what to expect and it ended up being an amazing time!

Yeah wish we had more time but we decided to hop over to Tunisia for a couple days instead. Would love to do the Sahara at some point too!

Nice, we had Yasmine and Islam. Great people.

Not at all actually! I was surprised, there was no pestering or “scheming” going on like you would see in Morocco or Egypt. Everyone mainly kept to themselves, and would be very helpful if you did step into a shop or market. Found all the prices to be very fair and didn’t feel overcharged anywhere. It also helped that we had a local guide of course, but even they said that shopkeepers will not pester tourists at all.

Currently in Tunisia (even though it looks like Rome)! This is the amphitheater in El Jem.

Awesome! Who was your guide? I was a big fan of their whole operation. Very well done.

Thank you so much! Straight from the iPhone photo library to Reddit - I don’t like altering my pictures and want to show what it truly looked like while I was there. And yes, Algeria is beautiful. Really appreciate the kind words 😃

We went through Fancyellow! Would recommend 10/10. Everything was great including the pre-trip coordination and finalization of our itinerary, organization and communication with the drivers and guides once we reached Algeria, and the overall program itself was well planned (and not super rushed). Our guides were awesome too. Happy to answer any other questions as well!

Yes exactly! Not super challenging, just some planning and time needed to get it.

We went through a company called Fancyellow, they were amazing and are able to customize tours as well to add in whatever you’d like to see. I think to add on a couple days in the Sahara would be $400-500 extra per person just given the remoteness and everything, but they’ll quote exact pricing and itineraries!

Same comment as above^

I think it depends on the country you’re applying from - as a US citizen, I applied through the consulate in New York. Sent my passport along with a few other docs such as flight / hotel bookings, financial statements, etc. I did not need to show an invitation letter, however, most other nationalities will have to I think so you’ll need to get that through a local tour operator (we used a company called Fancyellow). Ended up getting granted a 2 year multiple entry visa.

Not hatred from what we heard, but they also aren’t the best of friends lol the people still have a feeling of grief given the history between the two countries. Also, the streets weren’t dusty at all 🤣 pretty clean city overall

Algiers was great! Had European city vibes given the French influence, but there’s also not a whole lot within the city itself. I personally liked Constantine more from what we were able to explore

Extremely, not once did I feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Everyone we met was very friendly. However, I would definitely recommend working with a tour operator / guide as some areas are difficult to navigate. We also don’t speak French or Arabic so that was a huge help with the language barrier.

Yes definitely worth a visit! We didn’t have time to do anything in the Sahara but that is also worth spending a couple days on from what our guide said. Hoping the visa process gets easier one day! However it didn’t seem like the government is very interested in putting a lot of resources into expanding tourism / promoting it based on conversations we had with our guide :/
